Considerations for your Backyard Renovation
So, you’ve made the brave decision to kick off a backyard renovation. Congratulations! When done well, you could add thousands of dollars of value to your home, and ensure that your family or friends have a great space to relax and explore, all year round. The Baxton Property Management team feels very strongly about adding value to clients property. Today, we’re partnering with the Restumping Melbourne team – no strangers to ensuring that your homes and backyards are safe and comfortable. Together, we’d like to share considerations to keep in mind, as you begin this exciting journey.
Altitude and slope
You may be one of those lucky homeowners who have a panoramic vista from their living room. If so, your home is probably at a much higher altitude or built on a hill. You can assume the benefits here. Your home may be of a higher value, and you can’t beat the views. That being said, if you’re thinking about renovating your backyard, both altitude and slope have a say. You’ll want to be wary about digging up the land, as there is potential for landslides. There are also plants and flowers which don’t flourish as well at higher altitudes, so be sure to do your research.
Activities
What do you want to do in your backyard? Do you want to have endless rounds of cricket? Entertain the entire neighbourhood with boisterous parties? Relax and zen out, surrounded by peaceful herbs? All of these are wonderful, and attainable. They’re just things to think about early on in the process. Athletic activities will require turf or flattened grass, as well as the knowledge that continued maintenance is in your future. Those historic soirees that you’re thinking about scheduling will do best when the flow of your backyard is well-designed, keeping in mind areas for food, beverages, music and dancing. And your “you” time? Well-deserved, but probably requires taller fences and potentially, specific plants.
Style of home
Chances are good that you put a little bit of thought into the design of your home. Whether you built it from the ground up, spent hours on the Web looking for it, or luckily happened upon it, the style of the home was a selling point. So you’ll want to keep that in mind, when you’re designing your backyard. If the architectural style is of the Tudor or Victorian nature, a modern and minimalist backyard may provide an odd juxtaposition. Even if this doesn’t bother you right now, think to the future when you may or may not be selling the property.
Time and budget
And last, the logistics! It’s great to have a vision in mind, no matter how grandiose. It’s also great to level-set your expectations, especially as far as your budget and timeline go. There is zero shame in knowing how far your almighty dollar can go, and getting creative with it. After all, you don’t want to get halfway through your project, and come to a complete standstill.
