Song Review: Mark Rubin, Jew of Oklahoma - “Epstein Prison Blues”
Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself.
So goes the refrain of Mark Rubin, Jew of Oklahoma’s “Epstein Prison Blues,” a standalone single that picks up where Dispatches: Songs from a World Gone Mad left off.
Accompanying himself on guitar, mandolin and his tapping foot, Rubin lays out the evidence before pointing to a rare convergence of opinion in these divided times:
Left, right and center what’s it all about/just open up the file and let it all come out/Jefferey Epstein didn’t kill himself/from Antifa for the MAGA crew/you can try to hide but we know it’s true/Jefferey Epstein didn’t kill himself, he sings.
As on Dispatches, Rubin employs a joyful soundtrack and ebullient vocal style to deliver a stark message on “Epstein Prison Blues.” It’s a clever tack that makes Rubin an uncommonly effective purveyor of social commentary in an era that needs it desperately.
