The new Youtube UI is actual dogshit. I can cope with most of it but the fact that the playlist menu closes after you add a video to ONE playlist- meaning that to add videos to multiple playlists you need to click a billion more times now- is making me homicidal. This is coming off the heels of one of the worst Tumblr UI updates, too.

Look, I understand that UIs cannot stay stagnant for decades. If that were the case, everything would still look like it's from the 90s. But there's a huge difference between cosmetic changes to keep things fresh and actively breaking the features people love and use your site for.

Tumblr's hideous new dashboard design, Twitter's stupid fucking auto-refresh feature (that we can't even blame Elon for btw, it was there before he bought the site), and now Youtube breaking playlists. I genuinely can't fathom why these tech companies keep smashing popular features with a fucking sledgehammer for no reason. If nothing else it proves how absurdly out-of-touch these techbros are.

I updated my iPhone and the new ui sucks and I’m crying and it’s gross and different. UI changes are ableist and should be illegal.

Staff: “Oh! I know! Short format video is super popular these days. Let’s replace the good ol’ video player with one that looks like TikTok’s.”

Matthew: “I’m listening…”

Staff: “It can support infinite scrolling (that our userbase won’t use), so we can manipulate people into staying on the platform longer (which will not happen) and increase the ad revenue we get from them (which was already chump change).”

Matthew: “Perfect!”

Staff: “And get this: It won’t fucking work!!! None of the videos will ever load ever again!”

Matthew: “Yes! Get the app updated right now!! How could Tumblr continue being a failure with this in its armory??? God, I’m so good at running a business. I should get some ketamine to go with the ketamine I was planning to have for lunch, as a reward.”

the ui change has hit my app and not only is the rb button in a different place, but they also changed the timing of how long u have to hold the rb to bring up the quick rb menu and it is fucking me up

Ok. So.... New Tumblr UI update on mobile... it sucks to be real, like. Besides looking like a screenshot'd post, being very offset with the text, it really looks off when there are tags + the continuity of posts is lost as the corners are rounder

Ok, no, I actually want to talk about how bad the new discord mobile design is as a user.

If I get a DM on discord, then a little notification icon appears at the top of my discord app alerting me of this. To view the DM, I then have to swipe to open the server list, and then look to the bottom of the screen to see that it's a DM. Upon tapping the messages icon, it opens the messages, and where is the new message? Near the top of the fucking screen.

Compare this to the old layout. The notification appears in the top left, and I swipe to open the server list. I can now not only instantly see that I have a DM (or DMs) because my eyes are already looking at the top of the screen, but I can also see exactly who has messaged me because it shows me their icon. And if more than one person has messaged me, I can not only see that too, but I can also choose whose message I want to read first.

In addition, not only is it significantly more inconvenient to view my DMs, it's also more inconvenient to get back to the server list.

It utterly baffles me that discord would change this design. I have to go through more screens now to see my DMs, and I have to move my eyes from the top, to the bottom, then back to the top of the screen to view them. It is just straight up worse design! What were they thinking???
