The battle of Rocroi from "Alatriste"
The battle may not be historical correct in every detail, but it carries an overall sense of how such fighting may have looked like. In some historical sources such a push of pikes is called "bad war", because it was even in period looked on as extremely savage. The slaughter did go on until one formation lost faith and fled the field.
