it would be an utter undestatement to say that akihito was used to moving around. despite having only been alive for a meagre seventeen years, the concept of having a stable homing situation had been a foreign concept until high school. getting used to a new place shouldn't be an issue -- yet, perhaps because he had been able to live at least a few years in somewhat peaceful circumstances, he found himself scowling a lot more than usual this time.

"man, this sucks," he griped to himself in a moment of presumed solitude as he navigated his phone. "if there had been a beautiful girl as a city guide, the situation would have been different, but here we are."

bothersome as it was to acknowledge, it wasn't easy getting established in a new place. while chilchuck wanted nothing more than to just be able to settle down and open the store he longed to, he was in dire need of funds and understanding of the way this place worked. a clientele was not simply going to be rushing to him at random either no matter how hard he prayed, so although he didn't really feel like odd-jobbing his way out of things anymore, it seemed that was his best way to do things at current.

at least he had an unfortunate amount of experience when it came to that.

"'scuse me?" he tried hitting up the first and the best stranger who looked the part of a patron of the place he wanted access to. a shoddy looking tall-man with orange hair. "any good taverns around here? i'm kinda new in town so i don't know my way around yet."

when he had put his skates away, he had always pictured it was for good. it was better for someone like him to stay away from such normalcy. all it took was one unfortunately shaped pattern on someone's outfit for him to throw the rink into chaos in more than one way.

but then he had arrived here. the gifted pair of skates had felt like mockery, but despite his anger, he couldn't find himself to part with them. then came the realisation that even despite seeing a crescent he was still him. what had followed was initial panic and a great sense of loss. despite his grievances with his other self, the thought of having lost that part of him was even more terrifying to keigo. but apparently that was how it worked here. and when the summer festivities arrived and keigo was starting to mourn his complete lack of social life alongside it, the news of one certain event had piqued his interest.

at first he had only thought to be part of the audience, but in the spur of the moment he was overtaken by a variety of emotions based in longing, and the feeling that because wolf currently wasn't in the picture, it might actually be possible.

maybe it was okay to believe that the gift had been an encourangement instead of a mockery. why else would everything be coming together so nicely all at once?

one sign up later he found himself on the practice rink it had been a while since he had actually been on the ice, but the movements were like second nature to him. he didn't have to win. of course it would be nice if he did, but keigo also knew the danger of absence from his sport for an athlete. it would be arrogant to believe in victory.

... but well. at least he wasn't going to place last. an orange haired man who seemed like a deer on ice compared to some of the other people skating around caught his attention.

"uhm..." should he say it? it wasn't really his place to do so, but it seemed no one else were intervening. deep breaths, keigo, you're just trying to help out. "... this rink is supposed to be for participants. i'm not sure if there'll be any open slots for passerbys, but if you really want to skate you could try ask if there's anything like that planned in the schedule." because no way this amateur could be intending to join. right?
