A successful baking day!!
Today’s British Baking: Portly Mushrooms! (Jk they’re Sally Lunns. Fun fact: I have been to the shop in Bath and eaten one there, where it is served with butter and lemon curd and/or cinnamon sugar. Delicious!)
First time attempting to make macarons today and they turned out okay!
Pics of the surprise birthday cake I made for my brother who turned 26 today! He’s an essential worker and we are still under lockdown so he deserved something special and Up is one of his fave movies so I thought this would be cute. It turned out pretty well considering I had to make do with whatever we had around the house, though the 90+ degree weather did melt it a little 😅
It tasted amazing though! A whirlwind 24 hours of baking 3 cakes, freehand cutting and piping the house, baking the cookie for the house, making the buttercream, making a cupcake to be the base for the balloons, making royal icing for the house, assembling and frosting the cake, and arranging the truffles best I could in the heat. Everyone enjoyed it and that’s what counts 😄
Attempted a copycat recipe for levain bakery double choc cookies today—I’m the only one in my family to have ever had the real thing (thanks @thelonelybrilliance!) but everyone was alarmed, confused, and delighted with these: so, success! 🤣🍫🍫🍫
(The original bakery cookie is 6oz each; I weighed these to be a humble 4.5oz each instead)
It's my brother's birthday today and last night at 11pm I decided I should make him Cabin Pressure cookies as his present. It's 6am now and I'm only just heading to bed, but I am pretty happy with the end result! Sugar cookies made from scratch, icing made from scratch, all decoration done by hand because I'm an idiot I guess.
