Some ceramic pieces from the Roman period in Castro Marim.
The town we nowadays know as Castro Marim used to be called Baesuris, and it was probably founded somewhere during the III Bronze Age. After the Roman conquest of the region we nowadays know as the Algarve, Baesuris lived a period of some prosperity during the final times of the Republic (I Century bC), but that phase didn't last for too long - by the end of the I Century CE, the population had abandoned the old fortified hill, and Baesuris would remain abandoned for several centuries.
All these pieces are exposed in the Castle of Castro Marim.
