For the fanfic ask: What are our thoughts on loops fics, and double trouble what do we think of one person knowing about the loop while the other does not :D Second whats the scoop on reincarnation trope ie Across the Universe style- soulmates but not always the right time right place, sometimes beloathed, sometimes fated to harm the other kinda vibe- again secondary thoughts: what if only one party is aware of their shared realities :3
Hmmm… time loop fics… probably a B. They can be VERY fun when done well. How do you stop a particular fate coming to pass (or do you give up and let it happen to you?) and why is it so awful as to incur a time loop? How have you become so rooted in this moment and made it impossible to move forward?
Recursive time as a means of character exploration is just. Augh it’s very good and fun. Idk I’m also a sucker for the very specific brand of time loop of ‘You always had a choice in how this was going to end. It was always going to end like this.’ <- fucking. Makes me. Insane. (Looks at my small stack of time loop(esque) media I’ve enjoyed and one of my favorite fics) yeah I’m normal about it.
That all said they’re kind of a pain to write especially if you want to do a Groundhog Day bit and/or if you’re trying to write a justification for how the hell a character time traveled in a world that has not means of justifying it in canon. I’m also not terribly interested in ‘going back in time to communicate with your past self’ fics.
Only one person knows about the time loop: A. Very fun. Especially if there is fuck all keeping them from sharing that information with other people. (Hi has it become obvious yet that I’ve played In Stars And Time and liked the time travel hijinks it gets up to?) bonus points if it drives a wedge between the character who knows they’re trapped and the character(s) who are forever living unaware.
I don’t think I’ve actually seen much reincarnation ‘across every universe’ fan fiction however that said ehhh probably a C for what little I can remember off the dome plus some background hijinks in a game I’ve played. It’s again, very hard to justify without devolving into a mess and it’s often pretty hard to make compelling AUs to put the characters into or pull them out of. I’m sure if a canon could justify it and give it the structure it needs though it could be quite interesting.
Only one person knows: mmm… B probably? Fun, but nested inside what I’m processing as a messy trope. Very, very good angst potential though, especially if there’s a degree of ‘this isn’t ever going to work no matter how badly I want it to.’
