Bonded and Betrayed - Corruption in Bail Bond Industry
Bonded and Betrayed
The recent allegations against Russell "Bruce" Moncrief, owner of Moncrief Bail Bonds, cast a harsh spotlight on power abuse within the bail bond industry. Moncrief, facing charges of human trafficking and racketeering, allegedly leveraged his position to coerce women into providing sexual favors in exchange for bond services. This case underscores the need for transparency in the bail bond system and highlights the vulnerabilities faced by marginalized groups, including sex workers.
Moncrief allegedly exploited women by making sexual favors a condition for bond services, with refusal leading to denied or revoked bonds. This exploitation isn’t isolated. Historically, marginalized individuals—particularly those entangled in the justice system or facing economic hardship—are at heightened risk of abuse. For those in precarious situations, like many sex workers, power imbalances with bail bond agents and similar figures create impossible choices.
Mr. Bail
The bail bonds industry makes over 2 BILLION a year!?
AND you never get that bail money back even if you win the case OR it is dismissed?
WHAT KIND OF FUCKING SCAM COUNTRY ARE WE LIVING IN?!
The United States of America has the largest prison population in the world, in all of human history. Really WEIGH what that means.
Almost 2/3 of the court cases are plea deals. Aka, there's absolutely no real trial to prove their guilt. All because they threaten them with 'either settle for 5 years, or we will ask for 20.' Not to mention, the public defenders are ALL overworked with few resources to actually help their defendants.
I would say...1/2 are in there for non violent victimless crimes (drug or drug related).
And even when released, they lose a good chunk of their rights (moving <even abroad>, voting, guns, etc) when most were non violent victimless crimes...
The United States of America is a debt prison. If you're not in debt to them, you're in prison by them (or owning the corporation that PROFITS from there being people locked away for chunks of their lives.)
(ps-thanks to last week tonight for the info)
I’m so curious about this place near my friend’s house
Bail bondsman also sells breakfast burritos!
Or are they not for sale? The signage is vague. Maybe the burritos are an enticement. Get your bond here and we’ll throw in an egg n chorizo!
