Baileya multiradiata

This desert wildflower is native to the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. It is of course in the Asteraceae, or Daisy Family, and it is a short-lived perennial - though it re-seeds and thus persists at the Ruth Bancroft Garden (without getting out of control and making a pest of itself). The pale grayish leaves and bright yellow flowers make it a great companion plant for larger desert plants like cacti and agaves, and it flowers for much of the year.

Definitely reaching the point where I have to check who I've already answered for these hahah fdgsdf but I think Baileya works for this! They're on the run from authorities in the Shifting Expanse due to a catastrophic failure from an engineering project they were a part of and got the brunt of the blame for so they're trying to lay low in Wind and are a mess of anxiety and nerves and of course being so anxious and nervous all the time is Extremely tiring gfhdhd

I have answered this one with banescales and tundras already but let's see... i'll say obelisks this time. literally cannot picture a skinny obelisk, they deserve bigger waists than the site art gives them fdgsdf

22. Take an existing dragon in your lair and make them fat!!!

I'd been hoping someone would go for this one, I don't think I've seen anyone go for it yet hahaha..granted it wasn't quite intended for myself as much since I have put thought into most of my dragons' body types already but let's see...

Your adopt shop did make me realize I could use more fat imps so...Horchata, congrats you are fat now c: absolutely gonna need to draw him soon..perhaps this friday haha

(honestly though poor guy i've had him longer than the vast majority of dragons in my lair yet he's been so ignored and i've never even drawn him before? probably says a lot that 'just has a headshot drawn by someone else' is a sign for a dragon being ignored and unloved in my lair fdgsdfg the headshot is very lovely though c: )

happy fat dragon friday!! I just wanted to draw some art of Baileya being cute C: they're quite anxious-looking in most of their art so i thought they could use a little levity dfgsdfg they definitely like to feel cute!

Baileya multiradiata

Family - Asteraceae

Common Name - Desert Marigold.

Though commonly known as desert marigold Baileya multiradiata is only a distant relative of the marigold from the Tagetes genus, which also belongs to the Asteraceae family.

Baileya multiradiata is native to the deserts of northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States.

Baileya multiradiata is a short-lived perennial to annual that forms a clumping patch of silvery-green foliage which bears many tall, naked stems, each topped with a bright yellow flower head, the flower being typical of the Asteraceae family species.

Desert marigolds have got to be my favorite wildflower. Just look at it. So round, so cheery, so pure 🌼🌼

Small Baileya (Baileya australis), Newark DE. August 2017.  A moth commonly associated with forests and woodlots, the small Baileya is frequently encountered during light traps in the summer. Little is known about its larval stage, although there are reports that the caterpillars feed on black walnut (other members of this genus also feed on walnut).  I was unable to obtain eggs from this species, so hopefully next year we’ll have a better idea of their host preference.

Multiple generations in the eastern US; at least one in New England and three reported in the southeast. Adults common by late June.
