To be honest, anon, I see Shanks as that guy who can handle most things. It’s the ASL Trio we’re talking about (at some point I might even add Koala idk yet)
He’s that one guy you’d never suspect to be the hero in the story but hey he is so suck it up y’all
Ben is just extra backup, but he tags along on Shanks’ adventures because Sabo is that suspicious to where they need two sets of eyes on that kid, and just to see exactly what those three would do
Sabo? Sweet, angelic, demonic, evil, Sabo. Sabo is a little angel sassy demon that hisses at anything and everything that screams rules. He’s the one that goes in the cookie jar when Rouge tells him not to, and makes sure he doesn’t get caught (puts the blame on Roger and Roger can’t back himself up because god her angry glare is not something to take lightly). Shanks likes him, but realizes in horror what a serious troublemaker he is (i.e. suggesting they should release a crocodile in the Zoo and ride it like a dragon) Everyone thinks he’s the bad boy. He is. Please don’t take the Bad Boy portion lightly. You’ve been warned.
Ace? Ace isn’t too bad to handle, but he’s pretty mature! He’s basically the calm one in the group that goes “yeah that’s a pretty dangerous idea…are you sure you guys want to do this?” He’s the one always asking the questions and double checks to make sure it’s safe (i.e. suggesting that a crocodile wouldn’t handle all their weight and are dangerous creatures, but never said no for it being released in the Zoo) Everyone is scared of him because of how angry he looks, but really, that’s just his face, guys. He’s actually really shy, so he doesn’t say much. Shanks thinks he’s really cool, and talks to him whenever he sees him. (Ace looks forward to their conversations)
Luffy is a good boy! The greatest, good boy you’re ever gonna get. He’s basically a little puppy!!! If he’s been a good boy, he gets head rubs and a nice tummy pat. He’s the one that trouble finds accidentally (i.e. releasing a crocodile in the Zoo and the Zoo has to be put on lockdown) but he enjoys Shanks’ company. He’s the little baby, but whatever Sabo suggests? He’d do it in a heartbeat without thinking of the consequences. Shanks loves him to bits, but sometimes scolds him for not thinking things through. Everyone loves him because he’s so adorable! He’s got the cutest pouty face (and Roger hates it when it’s used on him just so Luffy can have extra food) and does cute things on accident. He can’t help that he’s so adorable.
Shanks is that guy that’s like “ok kids if you’re going to do something dangerous then put on some safety gear, ok??” so hearing about them releasing a crocodile in the zoo (and eventually being on the Zoo Watch List) was not on his bucket list because he was flirting with Makino at the time and Ben got lost
Basically, Ben and Shanks are like…those guys from the movie Hot Fuzz (the main two characters? Yeah, that’s Ben and Shanks to a T.)
