Fun With Baking
There is a Christmas event at the museum this weekend. Before The Bob hit, I helped out at the event, but lately, I’ve been exposed to too many contagious diseases besides The Bob that I don’t want to press my luck by being among a group of strangers (or even a large group of friends, for that matter). Substitution Cooking with Tizz - The Rolling pin stand-in Part 1
Welcome to the first ever installment of, “Substitution cooking with Tizz.” A photographic journey of one girl trying to bake, cook, etc. with limited tools and ingredients.
Reason for the blog posts:
I have been liaising a lot with some truly great cooking bloggers at work like Cat Can Cook, Equal Opportunity Kitchen or More than Burnt Toast. I realized. This baking and taking photos could be fun to do once and awhile. Although I realized, living in an NYC-style apartment with a smallish Kitchen in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood (where space is at a premium) - I was going to have to make some changes because no, I don’t have a food processor at my feet nor do I possess other culinary experts items. Challenge: Making cinnamon buns without a rolling pin.
Needs: PC cinnamon bun mix
Flour
Butter
1 Egg
Water
Measuring cups
Whisk
PC reusable Baking pans
1 wooden spoon
MIA: Rolling pin
Sub: A wine bottle - with a screw cap that you can fill with water and use
Reason:
After a lengthy search for a rolling pin under $50 in Toronto. I came up short. I sent out a tweet pleading for help. Low and behold - Dr. Jones to the rescue: Use a wine bottle. It’s heavy, rounded/cylindrical and I have loads of them on hand. So today I will attempt baking using a wine bottle as my roller. Let’s see how it goes...
