       The two of them were clearly experiencing very different reactions to watching the wizard amble around camp and, at Circe's words, Jack's bemused stare slowly morphed into a look of disgust. He had nothing against Gale per se: the man knew his way around a spellbook, occasionally said things that were useful and did the cooking around camp. But he was rather sheltered, and bland, and lovestruck when it came to their fabled leader. Jack respected her choice ( for the most part ), but it wasn't one he would have made. “ You mean to say he's not asked? ” He glanced her way for clarification. “ There's his first mistake. ”

       “ There's being a rebel and then there's backchatting the mighty Jaheira herself. But if she didn't mount your head on a spike back there, I'd say you've got nothing to worry about. ” Varric had watched all the commotion at the front gates of Last Light Inn from a safe vantage point, and needless to say he was impressed. Impressed enough that he simply had to introduce himself — True Souls of the Absolute or not, the tiefling leading this group looked like someone worth knowing. Someone who might just end the stalemate out here in these godsforsaken lands. “ Just don't tell her I said that or she'll mount my head on a spike and I really want to get back to Baldur's Gate sometime in the next century. IT'S BEEN AWHILE since birdie has had a real friend, & she pauses in her work at mending a heavy winter cloak to look up at aurora in surprise. ❝ oh. they do ? ❞ of course, birdie considers almost everyone to be her friend, even those she hasn't met yet. but it's hard to keep friends when you don't stay in one place for very long, & birdie tends to wander on her own more often than not. so to hear the assertion being directed at her brings a broad smile to her face, her pale feathered wings giving a giddy flutter. ❝ i didn't know. i guess i've never had one stick around for long enough to ask. ❞

she hesitates, but aurora seems genuinely curious. & though birdie hasn't had anyone ask for awhile, the story hasn't faded from her memory. her eyes drop to her stitching as she begins. ❝ my father was a mortal — i never met my mother, but he thought her an angel when they first met, on account of her wings. he said they were so great they could almost touch the ground. when she left him, she left me, too. i didn't have my wings when i was a baby, so i guess she thought i was a mortal, & that i should be with my own kind. but when they came in ... ❞ she pauses, glancing back up to catch aurora's eyes, her wings settling close against her back. ❝ my father didn't enjoy having the reminder of her. so i left. i've been on my own ever since. ❞ & birdie smiles then, shrugging. it isn't a sad story ; not to her. after all, it ends with her being set free.

       The moon was high in the sky by this point, and two individuals who very much should not have been trespassing in Umberlee's sacred temple had stumbled in there upon the cover of darkness with all the giddiness of two young, drunken lovers gladly breaking the rules. They'd only gotten so far as the stone entrance hall before they'd wound up sat together near one of the wretched stone statues — though sat was a generous word for the mess of limbs they'd ungraciously become. All that mattered to Jack was the feel of Sera's mouth on his, moving and kissing and pushing as the rest of her writhed around in his lap, trying to find purchase. In the midst of this sloppy dance, he was the drowning man seeking relief and salvation — but maligned Umberlee was to be supplanted by the red-haired, tempestuous fey goddess who had led him here.

@baldursgoons sent: [ ARM ]: after holding their hand, the sender releases the receiver, but slowly glides their hand up the full length of their arm, lingering on the upper arm, then the shoulder, then resting their touch against the side of their neck. from sera

       Amongst the din of the tavern around them, the bustle of patrons and fellow adventurers, of drink and cards and other pleasurable pastimes, hours has passed and Jack hadn't taken his eyes off of their new travelling companion. Some might have called him enchanted, but he was in perfect control of his own mind: entranced though he might have been by her red curls and playful tone of voice, it was their conversation that mattered most. Jack knew how to talk in order to get what he wanted from people, but he could count on one hand how many times those conversations had been effortless. With Sera, he talked, he laughed and, more importantly, felt understood. How she had managed that in one afternoon he did not know ( maybe there was some kind of fey magic involved ), but it only proved that he and Billy were right to let her tag along with them as they headed for the Sword Coast.

       Jack didn't bat an eye as Sera reached for his hand and guided it up her arm. The soft flesh of the inside of her wrist made him feel a little dizzy, but it was nothing compared to the warmth of her neck under his fingertips. They'd gotten closer too — their table might only have been small, but it meant that Jack had hardly noticed her lean in, their foreheads now only inches apart. Everything else around them had fallen away long ago. Now it was just his fingers, her eyes, her lips. He gently brushed his thumb along her jawline. He wanted her, he did — it would have been so easy to just give into the desire that their sudden, inexplicable intimacy with one another had induced.

       Six months ago, he wouldn't have hesitated. Six months ago, it wouldn't have mattered.

       He drew his hand away, leaning back in his chair. His dark gaze was drawn towards the back of the tavern where, outside, Billy was no doubt practicing with one of the training dummies near the forge. Jack was apologetic as he glanced back at her, but didn't know what to say. The spell, for the moment, was broken.

i definitely think nita would be interested in circe. they have certainly lived an interesting life thus far & their staff would simply enrapture her. this being said, i could see them both being on the fence & friendship not coming super quickly. i could see them enjoying a drink by the fire while secretly sizing each other up at the same time. i could also see them almost having a push & pull friendship because both of them being so reluctant to make longterm connections but finding enough common ground to at least calling each other friends. would it be easy? no! but that is part of the fun. i also think there are a lot of paralells here that would be fun to get our hands on / develop some sort of friendship for them w.

if they did go down a romantic route, i could see it being a little bit difficult which is sooo fun to play with. with circe not being over her ex & nita being someone who can be a little bit obsessive / requires a lot of devotion there could be some really fun drama to peel away here. on the other hand, there is something really yum to me about the potential of them as people who struggle w intimacy finding it in one another. also because of tht devotion nita tends to fall into, i could see her having some sort of really intense crush depending on chemistry & plotting, regardless of whether or not it's requited.

if we went the familial route, it could also be super, super fun. because to nita family is an obstacle to overcome. they provide an enviornment that makes you your best or you die. so if we did go this route, i could see it being a very sibling-rivalry kind of vibe depending on how fond they are of each other. but if nita were to view circe as a sibling, they should certainly check their tea for poison. often!

again i think there could be a really fun push & pull here. i think that there is also something really delicious abt the conflict they might be able to have in their spellcasting. i know wild magic is unpreditable while druids literally draw their power from the balance of nature so there is like immediately a reason to be wary of circe. do i think this could add some tension to their dynamic!! yes, if we decide to go that way. regardless, i could see nita being mistrustful of circe because of how little she knows abt them at the end of the day & that leading to some defensiveness that leads to pettiness.
