Why is it that almost every male protagonist from romantic ballets has the same exact story? It's always some guy who makes this young innocent girl fall for him but then betrays her, so she dies with grief (usually) and either he dies too or spends the rest of his days regretting his life choices (duh bro)

Like you got Albrecht, yeah he's cute and all, but did you really have to go for a random village girl when you're already engaged? no wonder Giselle dies like that (and was still in love with him even as a ghost!! RUN SISTER RUN). He's an interesting character but little to no empathy for him tbh

With Solor it's a bit different, he's forced to get engaged only after he was already in a secret affair with Nikiya but then did literally nothing for her and married the other girl with little to no (?) remorse. but at least he's "justified" by the fact that you couldn't really escape an arranged marriage and their relationship wasn't really meant to work from the start. Anyway he's a character I'm still fond of, love this ballet so much

As for Siegfried, my boy literally did nothing wrong in this world. he's just a sweet chill guy who doesn't want to grow up yet, he just wants to enjoy the world and have fun and fantasize about magic girls instead of real ones. the Odette/Odile thing wasn't really his fault imo, yeah he might seem a bit dumb at first but he was literally under the effect of a spell. So yeah he's a precious boy. I love him.

is it too woke-pilled feminist agenda of me to say that i think it is interesting that the two "obsolete" artforms timothee chose are also historical artforms that were by design unable to exclude women in the capacity that other artforms have and still do? ballet and opera both need woman performers to function, and the female characters are frequently just as central to the plot as their male counterparts, if not moreso. meanwhile, film and theatre both comfortably functioned without significant acknowledgement of hardworking women or their talents for decades. interesting.....

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think the main reason why people are mad about Timothee Chalamet’s comments about ballet and opera are because of that comment he made about those artforms. Now don’t get me wrong, I still think what Timothee said was a bit disrespectful to those artforms, but I don’t think many people would have gotten this upset by it if Timothee wasn’t doing that pretentious Marty Supreme Oscar campaign.

A lot of people were getting sick of it, and I think the ballet and opera comments just finally gave the people a real reason to shit on him (I also think what he doing was pretentious, but I don’t think he’s a horrible person or anything). Hopefully Timothee can learn to be a bit more humble and just let the art speak for itself instead of having to be his own hype man because I don’t think anyone is taking that seriously anymore.
