My father was a brilliant woodwork teacher. My uncle was an internationally respected archaeologist. I got my love of wood from my father and my love of ancient objects from my uncle. Both long gone now, but they helped to make me the man I am today. And that’s why I had to make this copy of a 10th century, Yew wood, gaming board, from Ballinderry. In all probability made by an Irish ‘Viking’ who didn’t consider themselves an ‘Artist’ at all, just someone who wanted a gaming board and made one, because they couldn’t afford to buy one 😊 It’s one of my favourite things #ballinderry #crannog #vikingage #woodcarving
