Start here:
On the whole Sky knew what the others thought about him. They saw him as the sweet, kind and caring man who fell from the sky above and he was loath to change their perception of him. By nature he was a kind soul and he knew it to be true, and he never fought against it. He was always ready to offer a kind word, lend a helping hand and soothe a scorned ego or help someone through nightmares and he was happy to do so. But that didn’t mean he didn’t have a more angry and destructive side. He didn’t like to show that part of himself if he was honest, and luckily the others had not had to see the other side of him and for that he was grateful. He didn’t want them to think any less of him because of that darker side of himself. But all things must come to an end and Sky was running up on that point swiftly with this battle.
They had found themselves in Warriors Hyrule, right smack dab in the middle of a warzone. A cannon ball whizzed by his right ear, close enough to make his hair flutter with the passing breeze but his focus never wavered. He was breathing heavily from the sheer onslaught of monsters he had been dropped into the center of and he was struggling to contain his frustration. Their numbers were massive in this keep or whatever Wars had called this weird room like structure before he had ran off to find whoever was leading the charge. He had said he would be right back but time had a funny way of stretching when one was being overrun with hoards of monsters.
Fi flew in a graceful arc through the air as he cut down a small grouping of bokoblins and continued his seemingly endless battle to hold the keep. He was starting to tire now, his muscles felt like a jittery ball of goo and while the hoard seemed to be thinning slightly they just seemed to keep coming in a steady stream. The ground began to rumble under his feet and he grit his teeth and planted his feet the best he could so that he didn’t topple to the ground. Black smoke filled the air to the right of him and he swiveled to face the new threat, the other monsters seemed to squeal at the sight and ran off leaving him alone with the black smoke. That didn’t bode well. An odd looking monster popped out of the boiling mist and it cackled and wheezed as it gained new form. Sky watched as it’s weird singular eye cracked, split into a mouth with jagged teeth and he felt bile working up into his throat.
“Oh another plaything! How much fun!” It laughed and Sky felt sweat drip from his brow as his hand tightened on the master sword. The thing bobbed a bit in the air and he could feel it sizing him up.
“You are a lot like the hero, you know that right?” It said finally and Sky let a sharp smile work it’s way onto his face.
“So I have been told,” He replied quickly and started to circle the thing. It followed his movements, a small orb of shadows coming to existing above it’s right shoulder as it continued to consider him.
“No, not just like the hero, you are a hero. From another time perhaps? I can see the same soul that glows in him in you as well. How fun!” It squealed and clapped. Sky felt the laughter grate at his nerves and darted in swinging, wanting this encounter to end quickly.
They traded blows for a little while, each of them testing the other's defenses with each swing of the blade and every spell cast. For how bulky it was it moved quickly and he was hard pressed to land a hit. He leapt away from a swipe that the strange cloaked figure unleashed at him and he stood, sword raised, breath coming in heaving gasps. Still it floated there, still it laughed it’s deranged laugh and he wanted nothing more than for it to just stop.
“You are a very interesting foe, but I think I have just what I need to bring you low,” It called out in a breathy shout and he inclined it’s head.
“Is that so?” He called back, a sudden rush of nerves making his fingers tremble just a bit. It nodded eagerly, snapping it’s long fingers before pointing at him. Sky had just enough time to gasp as a wave of dark magic slammed into him. The world tilted as he stumbled as visions flashed before his eyes. He watched his brothers flash before his eyes, each one with a look of terror on their faces before they died in awful ways. Wild was sucked into a pool of malice and Twilight looked like he was engulfed in flames.
“These are their futures,” A voice whispered in his ear and he felt his soul quake at the imagery. Time bleeding out with dozens of arrows piercing through his armor while Four cringed right before being trampled by a lynel. Tears streaked down his face and he felt himself starting to curl in on himself. It wasn’t real, none of it was, this was a trap.
Still the visions came fast and hard and now Hyrule was being carried away by monsters kicking and screaming and begging for help. Legend was next, and he watched as his bloody fingers desperately held on to a cliff as he struggled to pull himself back up. Wind lay with eyes wide open and pale in a body of water, his hair floating around him in the eddies.
No, No, No.
“All because you are too soft. Too kind. Real heroes aren’t as weak as you.” The voice said and something started to burn Sky’s stomach. A rage he hadn’t felt in years. Just as Warriors face began to bloom in his vision he let out a bellow of rage and stood at his full height. He swore he could feel lightning crackling through his veins as he stretched his sword skyward and brought it down. There was an inhuman screech of agony and the visions broke apart like a tree being demolished by lighting. The thing reeled back, a bright streak of light slashed across it’s chest as it pawed at it’s new wound.
“I am not weak!” Sky roared and he swore he felt the world quake around him. He stepped forward and delivered three more powerful blows in quick succession. His fatigue was gone, and all that was left was rage and fury.
“Do you know who I am?” He continued, voice still ungodly loud in his ears as he brought blow after blow against the beast. It tried weakly to defend itself, it wailed and cursed and struggled under his onslaught.
“I am the first hero! Chosen by the Goddess, imbued with the hero’s spirit!” His voice boomed like thunder and he delighted at the way the thing cowered and shook. He brought more blows down upon it, heedless of it’s begging. It was crawling away from him now, it slashed out in desperation but Sky paid it no mind. He reared back, sword held high, and drove it down into the thing’s back and twisted. It screeched and continued to claw at the dirt and Sky let it, as he knelt down and sneered.
“I am a slayer of a God, I have killed the very incarnation of hate and lived to tell the tale. Now tell me, what are you to a God slayer?” He said and before the thing could answer he pulled the sword away and with one final strike killed the beast. It let out a final wail and disappeared into black smoke and suddenly the world around him was silent and he let himself suck in haggard breaths as he worked to cool the rage that had fueled his attacks.
“Sky?” A whisper came from behind him and slowly he turned around and faced the shocked eyes of the Captain. He felt himself swallow hard as he looked at Wars who looked like he had seen the whole thing. His jaw worked to form words but nothing came from his now ravaged throat.
“By the Goddess,” The Captain breathed and he looked him up and down as he sheathed his own blade.
“Wars, I guess you saw that huh?” Sky asked and winced at the pain that flared in his throat. Wars didn’t answer, besides raising his hands and gesturing for him to… Stay calm maybe? But he was calm now. For the most part anyways.
“We need to get you to a medic. Now.” He said and Sky blinked in confusion and smiled at him.
“What? I’m fine Wars, this isn’t even my blood,” He tried to soothe but that only seemed to make Wars more panicked. And now Sky finally looked down at himself and he felt himself go cold. His tunic was sliced open at his chest, with four large and deep slash wounds practically pouring blood. He raised a hand to one of the deep gashes and gasped as the pain finally crashed into him. He tasted blood and he looked up at Wars who was now racing towards him but he was tilted at such a strange angle and he could barely hear Wars screaming for a medic through the sound of his heart pounding in his ears.
Cold, he was so cold and tired and a nap sounded great right about now. Wars was above him pressing his hands on his chest and turning the other direction as he was calling out to someone he couldn’t see. Sky brought up his hand to try to push him off, was Wars aware he was pressing the air out from him? He tried to suck in a breath but it was hard, too hard and he coughed. That had Wars looking down at him, and Sky felt a pang of guilt at the fear in his eyes. He didn’t mean to make him worried. He felt a hand patting against his cheek, could barely make out him saying something about keeping his eyes open but he didn’t know he had closed them. As soon as the cold appeared it was replaced with a nice warmth and he smiled, he really was tired, and the world was finally blessedly quiet. Sky offered Wars a comforting smile, patted his hand with his own blood sticky fingers and sighed. The world was fading out now, he must really be tired, and he hated falling asleep while Wars looked so worried but he didn’t think he had a choice. A quick nap would hurt right?
“I’ll be fine, Wars, just need a quick nap is all,” He sighed and he felt his eyes close as the noise around him flickered out into silence and warm dark waves and he basked in the comforting presence of his brother next to him as he let dreams take him.
