addendum: I got Win10 when it was first offered as a free upgrade (which is rare for me) and I use Photoshop. And Sai. And I game. Fallout (which I heavily mod), Bioshock, Far Cry, etc. I run multiple things at once. I have a really terrible habit of having 40-60 tabs in firefox open at once (granted I try to only have a bare few loaded). Never been a problem for my laptop.

Hello! I may be completely misunderstanding, but I saw in a tag you were asking who did the fan art of 2D and the whale and all that, and I just wanted to clarify that it was me :> if I totally misunderstood, I'm sorry!

I agree with you enTIRELY about Varric. Playing through Inquisition, I was DYING for them to treat him well, to give him what he deserved, some SEMBLANCE of happiness. And instead we get.. whatever the fuck Bianca is supposed to be. It's insulting? By the end of the game I was just legitimately upset because they created more loose ends than they tied and for ALL Varric has given, ALL he has gone through and done, he just seems.. used? Like you can feel him breaking down throughout the story.

Yeah, it is sort of insulting. I can't judge the rest of the game yet, but this seems like the biggest part of the Varric story and it's so ehhh. It doesn't live up to the stuff that was hinted in DA2, it could be intentionally written that way - Varric's storyies are interesting but the reality is mundane or something - but it's not clear. It's not clear if we're supposed to condone their relationship or not.

All that's happened to Varric in my main game is finding out red lyrium is EVERYwhere, and that the enemies are using it to get stronger, then I went forward in time and found Varric as a broken half-lyrium wreck driven insane, then Hawke went in the Fade and died, and then Bianca showed up, talked about how perfect and amazing she is, and admitted she's the whoooole reason why red lyrium is now being farmed and his worst nightmares are all her fault.

He's gone through a hell of a lot, even compared to his original weird thing about naming his crossbow after a girl he can't have and talking to it. Which is kind of his character hook. But now we know why and it's disappointing? Varric was visibly upset (of course) after the Bianca quest and managed to be a little angry at her, then back at Skyhold he talks about her with little hearts in his eyes and how he'll probably see her again anyway - he just forgives her without thinking about this too much or even considering that their restraining order, people sending assassins after him, the amount of potential violence, the huge secret he's supposed to be keeping, and the secrets he tells her that she OBVIOUSLY can't be trusted with might not be worth it after all!

And then all the companions just make light of how they're a couple as if that's all that matters!

This is the same game where we can support Dorian dealing with his father's emotionally abusive tactics, can support Iron Bull rejecting his own religion and people, all because we're able to critically examine the idea of pursuing emotional stability - but with Varric we're supposed to look at the awful shit he goes through due to a non-relationship and just respond 'lol they're cute'? I genuinely don't know what the game intends me to think.

He mentions in Skyhold that he met her 15 years ago, which is a hell of a long time to pine for someone and develop a crutch instead of moving on. He also gets the most honest he's ever been and says:

You know it took me three years to work up the nerve to confront my brother for trying to kill me? And even then, I couldn't make myself do it without somebody to stand there and hold my hand. If Cassandra hadn't dragged me here I'd be in Kirkwall right now, pretending none of this was happening.

He has a problem with confronting problems and completely knows it. And it's really sad! He NEEDED Hawke to emotionally push him into standing to to Bartrand, even though he was totally justified in that. His character traits have always put him as an avoider of handling problems - pretending Bianca does his fighting, writing stories instead of accepting reality, trying to stay as far from conflict as possible, on or off the battlefield, getting the player character to validate his decisions instead of him, controlling a network of informants and never going to guild meetings, he even has a skill for turning invisible. Varric will do anything to ignore confrontation. 

But apparently the protagonists of two games aren't enough to get him to reconsider this behaviour and reconsider the detrimental nature of Bianca to the Inquisition and to himself. I don't think he can ever start correcting his guilt spiral unless he becomes proactive and works against his most deeply ingrained personality trait.
