Most of us have seen the Yellow Lipped Banded Sea Krait (Laticauda colubrina), during a dive or snorkel trip at Lumbalumba Resort - Manado They live in the sea mainly to find food. Like sea turtles, they are reptile and have to come up to the surface to breath. They can stay down a maximum of 30 minutes and it is not rare to see a Sea Krait surfacing for air. But what is not often observed is one going on land here. We are not really a beach resort, but we have some beach during low tide. And now and then we see one crawling on the beach. They do that to nest but also to digest food and drink fresh water. In fact, adult Sea Kraits spent half their time on land. Laticauda colubrina, commonly known as the banded sea krait is a species of venomous sea snake found in tropical Indo-Pacific oceanic waters. 🐍 The snake has distinctive black stripes and a yellow snout, with a paddle-like tail for use in swimming. It spends much of its time underwater in order to hunt, but returns to land to digest, rest, and reproduce. It has very potent neurotoxic venom which it uses to prey on eels and small fish.
