This Wank Wednesday, we're bringing up some LJ-era wank! The Trigger Warning Debate took place during a 2009 LiveJournal Bandom Big Bang and sparked much debate about tagging and warnings on fic.

This LiveJournal debate might seem outlandish to fans who are accustomed to fandom norms of respecting triggers and the importance of helping other fans navigate fanfiction safely as a community. However, in some ways, the discussions generated during the debate set the foundation for these norms in the first place.

Thanks for the chats tonight darlings regarding the atl discourse post. It actually makes me quite happy that many of you feel the same way and are generally sick of what goes on. If you don’t want to speak out about it that’s totally on you and there’s nothing wrong with that. Please know that if you ever feel frustrated by what goes on there ect. you can discuss with my sympathetic ears and I will no repeat what gets said. I dont intend to carry anything further. But it’s been a long time I’ve held my tongue. And it’s just ridiculous and I’m sick to death of constant nitpicking and the blindness to how ugly it is honestly.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about? The idea that fans have some kind of innate understand of the band or somehow know the musicians.

Band fandom in general is built on shaky ground because a lot of folks seem not to understand that what they love is the stage persona of a musician as opposed to the person themselves. This is understandable, especially because we live in a world with instagram and podcasts and so much immediate access to these individuals that it sometimes feels like we know the "real them" but that is impossible.

Real relationships are reciprocal.

If they do not know you, you cannot know them. That is the simple nature of human interaction. 17. there should be more of this type of fic/art

There should be more art and fic that features: Ray Toro Steve Pedulla Claudio Sanchez (you picking up the pattern yet?) These are some of the most amazing artists in the genre and they are overlooked in favor of the other members of their bands who are fairer and/or thinner. The fandom has a circular discussion about this every few months and then pretends it didn't happen.

I’m feeling genuinely sad about the changes in Mumford & Sons music. I mean, dude, I was obsessed with them. Honestly, stuff like Feel the Tide and the demo of Hopeless Wanderer, Sigh no More as a whole and some stuff from Babel, simply pure beauty. The type of music that would make me feel like some fucking horse running in a camp of flowers and shit. Nah, just joking, but really, their music was everything. I mean, I’ve been listening to their eps and Sigh No More for over 5 years, non-stop. And now, they came up with this new stuff that sounds like some Snow Patrol, Coldplay crap and I don’t know. I mean, I’ve been dreaming of seeing these guys live, since they never came to Brazil, but hmmm if they do decide to come, will it be worth it? Because I’ll have to listen to this crap ass new music and who knows if they’re even gonna play the banjo anymore since it does sound like they burnt the banjo and the acoustic guitars while listening to Coldplay and deciding that it was a good idea.
