Band: Four Winds Away
About: Four Winds Away is an East Bay metalcore band formed in 2024 under The Coming Strife Records. Members include: Dimitri Russel (bass), Jerel Ramirez (guitar/vocals), Roberto Corona (guitar), Max Mahmood (drums), Elijah Tavares (guitar), and Gerold Rodriguez (vocals). Someone sounds familiar? Lead vocalist Gerold is also in Manos de Fierro, but delivers a completely different yet absolutely beautiful sound. Referencing religion and mythology with beautiful imagery on the album cover, their poetic lyrics are the highlight of this group as they feel raw and desperate, singing about betrayal and screeching out for help . Four Winds Away is a breath of fresh air that creates a world of serenity and doom. A voice with duality, Gerold pierces your heart with sharp screams, all while blessing your ears with melodic belts. Assisting him, Jerel joins on the occasion, serving his deep growls. The quick tempo of the drums, by Max, bring your feet to kick what’s in front of you and anticipate more. Entranced by the melodic guitar riffs, guitarists Roberto, Elijah, and Jerel (damn that’s a lot) capture their listeners by delivering intense, dramatic melodies that aid in the story they are trying to tell. And finally, Dimitri ties in all the etherealness with his deep bass, adding a sound of doom that perfectly encapsulates the entire albums mood of despair.

1. Between Each Breath 3:41
10/10 Catchy. A reason it’s the crowd favorite. Melodic opening with the violins, mid/high tempo in the second half. range of screams with a strong belt break in between. Sets the tone for the EP
2. Your Last Empty Wish (feat. Kane Tagamj) 3:17
9/10 Scream galore, high pitched and deep growls. Faster tempo. Break in the middle for some variety. Nice, cool, voice delivered as well. Straightforward, different yet still keeps the same theme and tempo going
3. Thorn (Assassination) 2:43
8/10 If you can’t enough of screaming then this one is for you. Variety of pitches delivered by Gerald. Feels the same as the previous song except the ending feels more “doom-like”. Not much stands out compared to the next one that follows
4. Fragments Of My Disease 4:11
10/10 My favorite. Amazing opening with a quote from Troy 2004 which lays out the story and lyrics. Amazing guitar riffs that take turns back and forth to create tension for the ending. Great screams that belt out for help. Beautiful voice at the end that screams out of despair and end this EP with an unforgettable impression
Overall: 9.5/10 AMAZING band. The Bay Area does not disappoint when it comes to finding new metal artists. One of my favorites to newly come out in the past two years
