𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 ;
he's barely one years old when he’s faced with his first goodbye . of course he doesn't remember it - the raw pleas from a fragile woman bargaining with her father before she does something she'll regret . he'll never see or hear from the woman again - but he likes to imagine she's somewhere nice , that she's happy .
for sure , he is far more optimistic about the whole abandonment thing than his grandfather - a stern man that rarely produces a smile , who he has never seen crumble ( or at least finley will allow him to believe so ) . in all truth , leonard monaghue was far past the age in which raising a child came smoothly . in fact , he barely resembles a grandparent as it is - he’s sharp tones & rough edges , and he certainly didn't have the patience for a rambunctious blur of curls . even now , affections & i - love - yous don't come easy for the pair ( with leonard often fondly referring to finley as 'shitbag' ) , but they know they're all each other has - and finley is eternally grateful for the huge sacrifice his grandad took just to give him the life he has now .
ultimately , family for finley is something that is chosen rather than a birth right . it’s his friends , his bandmates , those that somehow still haven’t grown tired of him .
𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 ;
finley's aura is one that initially appears wholly unapproachable , but once he cracks his killer smile , its evident that he's utterly harmless . he's quite the social butterfly - the kind of person to hold up a queue in tesco because he wants to hear about the cashier’s day , or to have a long list of friends yet still remembering each and every birthday . he loves to hear about peoples' stories & dreams , always finding inspiration from the smallest of things .
he may have a major slight ego issue - especially when it comes to the band . he fancies himself a younger alex turner ( the delusion ... anyway ) , & has long idolised the big names in the alternative / indie music scene ( why do i imagine him trying to pull a spike island esque stunt ) .
finley's biggest downfall is his restless nature . his mind is a constant whirlwind of about a hundred thoughts balled into one . he's 100% an insomniac , & can be spotted wandering around the streets at god knows what time in the morning . he's awful when it comes to jobs - has probably been sacked from more 9-to-5 jobs than you can count on both hands . in his view , what's the point of doing something if you're not passionate about it ? he’s , unfortunately , the same in relationships - falling in & out of love with worrying ease - but love & heartbreak make for amazing music , right ?
although he’s a big mouth approximately 99% of the time , he’s not the most open of books emotionally . he’s the type of person to evade all forms of confrontation , choosing rather to run away from his problems . the best way to decipher how he’s feeling is through his music , but there’s some songs he’s written that still feel too raw to put out there . he has a lil journal filled with lyrics & doodles that he’s carried around with him since he was around seventeen years old ; despite the jam - packed & tattered pages.

she’s lived in hitheside all her life, & she likes staying here but she definitely takes road trips out on her bike to explore & see the rest of the world.
motorcycle street racer, reckless & a lil stupid. she went from fixing bikes to riding them ( & crashing them, but that’s what the fixing is for! )
better with her hands than her head, she’s definitely an act now, think later kinda girl! also not too good with her words... using them is Hard
though she’s unafraid to speak her mind, if you’re bugging her. or if you’re cool! she’s not the type to be stingy with compliments or insults, they’re just not gonna be very wordy
her stage name’s a lil tongue in cheek cheesy, but it’s also from her korean name! probably don’t call her that irl tho
she got into music bc her ex sent her a lil mixtape & she wanted to return that effort with her effort & used up all of her bad w words brain cell to do it... they didn’t work out but now she rlly likes music!
but she’s not sure if she likes it enough to deal with fame & leaving her auto repair shop? its a conflict bc music was this fun easy thing to let off steam & its gotten a bit bigger than she expected
ice pops melting sticky in the summer heat _ the peak of a roller coaster ride before it drops _ speeding so fast the wind tangles your hair _ bass vibrating through the walls next door _ stolen moments in the club bathroom _ the glint of gunmetal piercings _ leather jackets & combat boots

❛ ♫ · » lennon stella, cisfemale, she/her « wow … celeste olivier just told me that their band, lost oddity, got accepted into that battle of the bands thing. wait, you don’t know them? i could’ve sworn i saw you two together at sound institute . well, nevermind. they’re twenty two, and they’re the guitarist of lost oddity. when they’re not playing music, you can usually find them serving drinks at the local coffee shop. i think you’d like them— they’re so positive trait, but … also kind of negative trait, i suppose. you’ll know it’s celeste if you ever meet them, because they’re the walking embodiment of aesthetic & aesthetic.
celeste was born with rose colored glasses. in her eyes, her parents were SAINTS and she worshipped them. she was their angel, always getting straight a’s and proudly displaying them on the SILVER fridge. like many kids, she grew up believing that her parents were good people — who happened their way into wealth.
when celeste turned fourteen, everything made sense. her nanny — the woman who raised her — left celeste a note on the day that her parents sent her packing. her family hadn’t made their wealth at all, but instead scrounged it off of others before leaving them in the dirt.
from that day on, celeste’s only motivation was wanting to be anything but her parents. she would sneak around the city of manhattan, finding trouble wherever she could — as long as it didn’t find her first. she started smoking cigarettes at age fifteen, the treasurer brand being her vice. because her parents used others, she used them — their money, connections, and name.
at age fifteen, she discovered the real reason her nanny had packed her bags. the woman had been in the wrong place at the wrong time, overhearing an affair between the olivier family patriarch and his secretary. caring for celeste’s wellbeing, the woman told mrs. olivier who told her to pack her bags and go. that was the last time that celeste heard from her. she could assume that her family stopped the woman from squealing in the only way they knew how.
during her sixteenth year, her parents had her do the unforgivable task of saving her family’s wealth. the girl, not even an adult, was tasked with seducing the family’s accountant. he had felt pressure to report the olivier’s tax fraud for what it was, wanting to avoid the heat on his own back. with black lingerie and a painted visage, the girl did the deed her parents forced her to do. this wasn’t the first time her parents had coerced her into doing something of this nature, but this was the first time it she went all the way. it took everything in her not to spill tears all over his desk. that was the breaking point for celeste, now a cracked porcelain doll.
on the day that celeste turned eighteen, her parents had a singular gift for her — freedom. with their wallets open and a daughter they couldn’t get back, they let her go. the girl was now a fraction of who she was ten years prior. NUMB was the only word to describe her, seeking thrills wherever she could in order to feel something, anything.
now at age twenty two, celeste has yet to feel something. the world moves around her, begging her to take action, yet she remains frozen with a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. her most common company is a glass of whisky with lipstick stains along the rim, held between fingers embellished with jewels that will never truly be hers. she finds solace in a warm body sleeping next to her, the closest she will ever come to love.

💥 ——— THE STORY.
jason's grandparents emigrated to england from china when they were both in their twenties. they always gush about how they did it because they were so madly in love . . . and he'd be lying if he didn't enjoy the story every time they tell it. however, being raised by his beloved grandparents wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. the boy had more questions, too.
having never known his parents and with his grandparents not giving him much to work with, jason's history was a mystery to the young boy. he had so many questions but no answers. what of what his grandparents were telling him was fact, and what was fiction? this confusion bordered on misery, which quickly turned to anger. jason was an angry young boy between the ages of eight and ten, and he'd never tell anyone ( much less nainai or yeye ) but it all boiled down to the fact that he knew nothing about himself.
walking through life like that wasn't the way to go, and jason realized that, if he wanted to truly thrive and not just survive, he'd have to find an outlet. the boy tried everything ( truly, he did. he played cricket, then played football, tried painting and then tried to learn different languages ) before, one day, a friend came across one of his ( what he assumed to be ) silly little scribblings, a makeshift and happenstance poem that was more anger than anything else, and told him that it was good. little did he know that it was something so small that would change his life forever.
that little compliment lead him to put more passion and more effort into his writing. he tapped into all of his emotions -- especially the ones he didn't feel comfortable telling anyone -- and put it into his lyrics. never having fancied himself a singer, the boy tried his hand at rapping. jason understands his own limits and, perhaps, he's not the best rapper in the world but he takes the time to practice. practice makes perfect, right? ( he hopes. wow, does he hope! )
he went it alone for a while, cutting his teeth around the hitheside underground scene. however, it soon became apparent to him that he wasn't cut out to be a solo act. jason had it figured out as far as the lyrics could go, but didn't understand the first thing about music production. he could play a very elementary guitar, but he wanted a group of likeminded artists to push him to be better, to make him want to get better. when he found the other members of friction, it was pure serendipity. they might not have been in his life for too long, but he considers them family. they see him for who he truly is and who he could be, and jason appreciates having someone other than his grandparents really and truly on his side.
when he's not writing or thinking up new beats, he's constantly trying new things. the mix of different hobbies he'd tried created a deep desire in him to always try something new. besides, he's never thought of himself as much of a thinker, really -- he's definitely more of a doer. helping his yeye with anything the man needs is time well spent in jason's mind, but he also enjoys helping out any of the elderly men's friends who need things built but cannot do it themselves anymore. jason's always trying to keep busy because, at the root of it all, he's still wondering who he is.

❛ ♫ · » jordan fisher, nonbinary, he/they « wow … zion march just told me that their band, cold stare, got accepted into that battle of the bands thing. wait, you don't know them? i could've sworn i saw you two together at that thrift shop on higher hithe street. well, nevermind. they're twenty-three, and they're the bassist of the band. when they're not playing music, you can usually find them teaching music class at the local secondary school. i think you'd like them— they're so cheerful, but … also kind of obnoxious, i suppose. you'll know it's Z if you ever meet them, because they're the walking embodiment of sunlight bouncing off of stained glass, giving even more life to what was already beautiful.
zion comes from a large family of ten: their mothers, three sisters and four brothers, all adopted, with him being the second youngest. this environment definitely lended to his large personality. with so many kids, there was always constant competition for any and everything-- space, attention, the remote control. that said, their home couldn’t have been more loving. his mothers, who zion considers to be the most incredible people on earth, provided everything and more for their kids and for each other.
he was diagnosed with adhd at a young age. his moms, by then, knew what sort of things were outside the norm for hyperactivity in kids and zion fit the bill. from as early as kindergarten, teachers would send him home with letters complaining about his inability to be still in class, outbursts during quiet time, and failure to take in simple concepts that his peers understood immediately. as he grew up, he became incredibly self conscious about this fact. for one thing, no matter how hard he tried (he tried, he tried, he tried), he was always just barely scraping by in his classes. it was a massive cause of stress and self doubt all throughout secondary school, to the point where he cried when told he’d passed and would be graduating. for another, their loud and fidgety presence wasn’t always welcome around their peers. being friendly with others was something that came naturally to zion. being friends was a whole other issue entirely. of course, he’s always had his siblings, as well as his three best friends who would later go on to be his bandmates, but for someone as extroverted as zion, they couldn’t act like it didn’t hurt to be seen as annoying (at best) by other kids his age.
zion isn’t quite sure he was really alive until the first time he played bass. with so many kids to keep track of, it helped his moms to have them engaged in activities in and out of school. for a while, zion’s thing was whatever one of his siblings was doing. football, art lessons, gymnastics (briefly), things that he did just because he’d never really given much thought as to what he liked. that much changed when one of his brothers started taking guitar lessons, so zion decided he would take guitar lessons. when asked what kind of guitar he wanted to play, not-quite-ten zion just sort of.. guessed. in this, they were incredibly lucky. from the first note he played, harsh and out of tune, he felt a joy unlike any he’d experienced before. it turned out, learning to play music traditionally wasn’t any easier for him than learning long division. he announced to his moms that he would be quitting lessons and teaching himself. and that’s what he did. in his off time, he played and played until his fingers hurt or someone told him to stop. he watched videos, listened to new music, practiced all he could until he could replicate bass lines to all of his favorite songs and then some. to this day, it remains one of his proudest accomplishments.
when it comes to gender and sexuality, there’s a lot up in the air for zion. it wasn’t until late in his secondary school career that he even began to think about those things. they’d never been in a relationship, even now, and thought that theoretically, when they did it could very well be with anyone who was kind and made him laugh. “the gender thing”, as they called it when talking to their parents about it, didn’t come up until after graduating from university. they, of course, gave zion ample resources to help in figuring things out, but still he figured it was something he would come into in his own time. it’s not something they really acknowledge outside of their circle of family and close friends, aside from the cursory “he/they” in his social media bios.
zion’s family was more than a little well off - they had to be, to afford taking care of eight kids - which gave them a lot of freedom in life. even having moved out of the house, his parents still took care of him and his siblings. if it was what he wanted, cold stare could be his full time gig and he wouldn’t suffer for it financially. that wasn’t, of course, the case for all of his bandmates. so, zion went back to school, studied music and education. it wasn’t any easier for them than it had been in secondary school, but now they had a goal in mind, and the determination to push him the rest of the way. after graduating, they took a job as the music teacher at the local secondary school. ideally the job would have just been a way to make himself useful to society when away from the band, but the reality was so much better than he could have hoped. zion loved teaching. he loved his classroom and how he could make it a place for kids to feel safe, and welcomed, and understood, all while learning about music. it was a dream come true.
zion’s family has only continued to grow over the years as his siblings went off and had kids of their own. they’re an uncle several times over, and love their nieces and nephews to pieces. tight at their schedule might be most days, they never hesitate to break the flow of things to spend time with his family, as they’ve always been the most important thing, second not even to music
despite having enough money to shop elsewhere, zion buys most of their clothes from local thrift shops and flea markets. this is because his sense of fashion is, in a word, atrocious, and he finds the best gets there. he dresses the part of emo-kid-never-met-a-color-that-isnt-black on stage, because he figures the music should speak louder than his knee length muppet socks, but elsewhere he’s mostly a high waisted corduroy pants and bright yellow windbreakers kind of guy.
they adopted a cat when they moved out of the house. her name is iris (after the song) and she’s their best friend. they spoil her much more than is reasonable, but deny it whenever its brought up.
