If I had a nickel for every bassist that looked like this I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't allot but pretty weird that it happened twice.
Molly Hatchet – “Flirtin’ With Disaster” Song written by Danny Joe Brown, Dave Hlubek, and Banner Thomas
Dave Hlubek, Molly Hatchet Founder, Dead at 66
Guitarist Dave Hlubek, who founded Molly Hatchet and co-authored some of its best-known songs including “Flirtin’ with Disaster” and “Gator Country,” died Sept. 3.
Hlubek was 66; with death was announced on the band’s Facebook page.
“It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of our beloved friend and band member Dave Hlubek,” the post said.
“ … Our condolences and our prayers go out to his family during this time of loss. He will be missed but never forgotten, as the music lives on through his legacy in Molly Hatchet.”
After putting the group together and finding success with late-1970s and early-80s albums like Molly Hatchet and Beatin’ the Odds, Hlubek left the band in 1986. He returned in 2005 and played with the band when his health allowed.
Hlubek was the band’s sole remaining original member; original bassist Banner Thomas died earlier this year.
Molly Hatchet is scheduled to play a show Sept. 16 in Maryland.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Molly Hatchet boys and the family of Dave Hlubek,” Blackfoot said on its Facebook page. “You will be greatly missed. Another southern rock legend gone too soon. Thank you for your friendship. RIP.”

Former Molly Hatchet Bassist Banner Thomas Dead at 63
Former Molly Hatchet bassist Banner Thomas died April 10, the band said on its Facebook page.
“Our prayers and condolences extend to Banner’s family and friends,” the band said. “RIP.”
Thomas was 63; no cause of death was reported, but the bassist had been fighting pneumonia, according to Jacksonville.com.
Fellow Southern rockers the Outlaws remembered Thomas with “great sadness” and said of the bassist: “He was smart, articulate, talented and most of all a good friend.”
Thomas was with Molly Hatchet from 1974 to 1981 and played on their first four albums before walking away. In a 2002 interview, Thomas said internal fractures appeared after the success of 1979’s Flirtin’ with Disaster and 1980’s Beatin’ the Odds.
“I’m sorry I quit the way I did, when I did, but it looks like I picked a good time to get out,” he said. “Not long after, under pressure from management and the record company to produce more hit singles, the band started to lose its identity and started to look like Loverboy.
“I’m glad I wasn’t there for that.”
Molly Hatchet continues to perform with Dave Hlubek being the only original member.

The Rock And Roll Geek Show – 764 – Will It Hold Up? – Aqualung
The Rock And Roll Geek Show – 764 – Will It Hold Up? – Aqualung
On this episode I make a public apology for being a douchebag and then I do another edition of Will It Hold Up? This time it is the first album I ever owned, Jethro Tull’s Aqualung. Listen and find out if it stands the test of time, or if was even any good to begin with. Also a show review of Leslie West in Ridgefield, CT, and some email from friends of the show. I end off with a tribute to Molly…
