What music does Edge listen to when he’s being a lovesick sap over Stretch?

I was thinking about it ‘cause I’ve got brainrot for your BAON series (over the course of the past week I’ve binge read it nonstop and I think I’m close to being caught up on it) and there’s two routes to go here:

First option: songs like Invincible (it has a spicyhoney video for it on yt, i very much recommend)

It’s a very specific type of feeling, but Edge is from underfell and that is a Place so I think it fits. Honestly it’s probably the definition of a gooshy love song there, the lyrics are perfect: it’s basically saying that This is the person that I’d want and allow to help/save me in the event that I need it (which has got to be Quite a level of trust in UF), they make me powerful, together we’re “invincible.” It admits weakness then immediately strengthens past that when the other comes into the equation. Like- here we’ve got the whole “they complete me” trope in romance, who’s to say canceling out eachothers weaknesses isn’t exactly what Underfell would take from that?

Then there’s the second option: softer songs like honey bee (the one by steam powered giraffe)

More geared to their vibe here on the surface, specified to thoughts about Stretch and their situation. And yes It’s a breakup song but music is art and art can be interpreted however the viewer feels it aligns with them so who cares- but anyway yeah it’s slow, it’s sweet, it’s dripping with adoration and the lyrics match up So Well for them: I feel it’s safe to infer from his stance on their souls that edge doesn’t have a damn clue how he ended up with stretch as his husband but understood or not, stretch is here anyways. His honey bee does what he wants, thank you. It’s great, and I could continue this for multiple paragraphs but I already feel like I’ve talked Way Too Much here so I’m gonna cut that short.

Both of these feel like they Fit to me, but ultimately it’s a question of ‘when you take the boy out of underfell, how much punchy stays in the boy?’ The 2nd one would make sense and I don’t doubt he’d absolutely listen to stuff like that but what I don’t know is Would the 1st one still just hit harder for him?

Please, this has been bugging at me for days and i’d love to hear your thoughts

As to the question, oh, damn, that's a tough one. Both those songs are amazing spicyhoney songs and I agree that Invincible is great for an Underfell vibe. So true to their relationship, too.

I'd never heard the song Honeybee before, and it's going right on my playlist because that is a great Spicyhoney song. My heart, it is full, and it's a great Edge song since he canonically adores 'crooner' style music.

(If anyone has forgotten or is curious, when Edge was a kid in Underfell, Red found a busted up walkman for him and the only cassettes he had were the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.)

Growing up in Underfell, Edge never could have imagined someone like Stretch even existed, much less what he would become for him. He wasn't looking for someone to share his life with, he was content enough with what he had. It was Stretch who came to him and can a person even recognize loneliness for what it is until someone comes into your life and then is suddenly gone...and then returns? He certainly didn't and it was Stretch who taught him, unintentionally, a lesson learned with a first kiss.

Edge didn't know loneliness before Stretch, not by name, and he didn't know love before him, either, and Stretch in his life has given him so much that he never even knew to miss. Family and friends and laughter and love. Everything he can't live without anymore is his, at last.

Love the new chapter as always!! But I was wondering if we could maybe get more insight into the readers and Brocks relationship earlier on, when they were happy maybe and how it began to change? Just to maybe understand their relationship dynamic, family and friends a little bit better. Love you!

Hi sure! I touched on this pretty briefly in part 2 but you’re right, their history has been pretty vague. I genuinely haven’t thought too much into the detail of when their relationship started/changed because the plot has been so focused on how the relationship is now and Bucky’s part in it. But here’s a little glimpse into what I imagine may have happened:

The important thing to know is the relationship between Brock/reader was never real.

We know from part 2 that you met Brock at one of the cafes by your office at Columbia. It was one you frequented regularly so it wasn’t unusual to find you there most mornings. You had thought it was a coincidence, to bump into this charming, handsome man who offered to replace the tea he’d spilled over the floor, but Brock had done his research. He staged it from the start. 

He played the role of a doting, loving boyfriend for years, through the early stages of dating, through moving in together, and then, getting engaged. The man faked tears on his wedding day just to keep up the act. Part of him hated to play the part of a spineless, overly emotional boyfriend, but he got off on it. The lying. The power that came along with it. Knowing that you’d do anything for him as he strung you along like the strings of a marionette. It was a thrill. 

All the while, you loved him. He was supportive of your job that kept you at the school for long hours, helped read over your students papers, played soccer with Peter on weekends, and treated you with the attention and kindness you craved. You didn’t know it was an act until after your father died. 

It was the reason Brock targeted you. Your father had the kind of wealth that could easily be funneled and hidden from the NYPD and you had no real interest in it yourself. So, when your father died and his millions were inherited to you, amongst your grief, Brock convinced you to merge it to a joint account, one he eventually removed your access to.

He started to change after that. It wasn’t abrupt. Slow, unexpected changes in his behavior that alerted you that something was wrong. 

He stayed out late at night and left early in the morning, claiming that he was swamped at work (but you’d called the number of his office to find that it was out of service). He was tense and cold. His hands were rough with you and he stopped smiling so much. 

You thought maybe he was cheating on you. 

Until you started to notice the small things. 

Like how he wasn’t wearing his glasses anymore (ones you discovered didn’t seem to have a prescription lens for)

How gritted he teeth in frustration whenever Peter was going on about his latest science project at Sunday night dinners at Mays.

How his affectionate pet names like “baby” weren’t as sweet on his tone anymore, and how they sounded more like a threat, or an insult. 

It spiraled quickly after that.

You’d come home early from work one day with a headcold to find Brock huddled around the table with men draped in automatic assault rifles, piles of money on the table, and bricks of cocaine towered beside him. 

You wished you could say you were surprised, but somehow, by this point, you weren’t. 

You’d tried to run, to make up some excuse to leave and call the cops and get the hell away from whatever he was caught up in, but he’d grabbed you before he could, slammed his hand over your mouth and held you tight. 

With nothing left tying him down to the lie now that he had your money, he told you the everything. Threw it in your face like he’d won some elaborate game you never asked to be apart of.

He stopped hiding who he was. Stopped caring when you’d pull away as he reached for your arm. Stopped lurking in shadows and brought the full of Hydra to the surface. The guns, the drugs, the men in the baseline who left bloodied and beaten. 

You realized there was no way out. Not with Brocks connections and the leverage he held over you.

So you stayed. You closed yourself off and hid away in your library because spending even another second with that liar, that man who pretended to be someone he wasn’t, who manipulated you into a life you never wanted, was simply unbearable.

You survived. You dealt with what you could. You were numb, but you were free and peter was safe. You learned how to be complacent and went with the motions.

And then you met James.

I hope that was what you were looking for! I almost wrote an actual drabble for this but I don’t want to write anything legit while the story is still unfolding. But maybe if I do drabbles/bonus one shots after the series is finished I’ll come back to this!

Out of curiosity, do you have a playlist for Spicyhoney? Or at least a few more songs about them? I love them so much and I can't get enough of them!

I don't, sadly, mostly because in my head, any song can be a spicyhoney song if you try. 😂

I can give a couple of faves, though! I like to think that if Stretch ever did karaoke again, the cover of S&M by Mi Nemesis would be about how he'd tease Edge. (sorry, there's no free version online, but you can find it on spotify.)

By any other name 'verse question... will Sans give Red a collar or will their relationship remain a single collar relationship?

Also loving the whole 'verse spiceyhoney deserves more love and the UF bros loving and supporting each other but being shaped by their fucked up world is beautiful.

Ah, I don’t think it’s spoiling anything to say that the collaring traditionally only goes one way in Underfell. It’s not always a sign of a romantic/sexual relationship, (Red did wear Edge’s after all) although Edge was the one who recognized it as a betrothal collar.

But it also doesn’t necessarily mean that Red ‘owns’ Sans or that he’s got any control over him. Sure, that the usual order but let’s not pretend Edge was actually the boss of Red, either, despite the labels. The wearer of the collar also has certain expectations as well. It might not be the usual ‘to love and cherish’ sort of relationship, but I have no doubt that Red and Sans have their own set of rules that they both flagrantly ignore when it’s convenient for them.

I'd like to see Stretch get a box of chicken gear from his fans. He could be chicken from head to foot, to the point Edge refuses to leave the house with him.

So I'm curious what strech and edge would do if cheese turned out to be a goose. XD

Ah, a goose, top tier evil in the hierarchy of the poultry world. Luckily, Edge has some experience in dealing with evil and Stretch has a little evil going on himself, so I think they'd be capable of handling it!

I love the mental image of Stretch taking their goose for a walk in a harness, scolding it whenever it hisses at anyone. Edge would resign himself to keeping a table out front with a sign advising people to check for anything their goose may have stolen. Socks, gardening tools, toys, it's all fair game and he's not convinced that their feathered thief doesn't have a touch of magic of their own!

In BAON... Sometimes I wonder, doesn't Strech have this conflict of feeling like a cougar about Edge? you know, because of the age difference

Not really? They don’t know their exact ages, but Stretch is somewhere from 8-10 years older than Edge. That’s a fair difference, but not too extreme, and despite having to mostly raise his brother, he’s not actually old enough to be any of the younger skellies parent. Their personalities actually tend to make people think its the opposite and that Edge is the older one. People looking in from the outside think Edge is the one with the Real Job and he isn’t the one helping the local kids create diet coke and mentos contraptions on the weekends. (Stretch gets the better end of the deal, imo)

There’s also the fact that Edge matured rather quickly in Underfell and while there were struggles in Underswap, things didn’t get really bad until the anomalies started. 

There are moments when Stretch gets a reminder that Edge is younger than him, the same age as his brother, but since they met as adults, it might rouse up his own protective instincts a little but it doesn’t have a lot of impact on him. Aside from the fact that he never, ever ever wants to hear Edge teasingly call him ‘daddy’ again, not funny, Edgelord, not funny at ALL. 

What he likes better is introducing Edge to things that he never had a chance to experience before. His age makes less a difference than the simple fact that Edge did not really have a childhood in Underfell and Stretch wants to bring him all the joys he’s missed. This story is a pretty good example. 

Honestly, it’s just as well Stretch isn’t the older, overprotective type. He’s more likely to fight dirty. It’s a Sans/Swap Papyrus thing.

Hey did Frisk ever tell Sans that Flowey was formally Asriel and how exactly the barrier was broken?

I am assuming that is happen the same way as a canon true pacifist ending does.

That's a good question, did they?

Only Sans and Frisk know for sure. The other skeletons were there when Frisk arrived, but they didn't really get involved. You'd think part of the reason would be that Stretch was fairly traumatized by the Human in his world and would want to stay away, but not really. By the end of Underswap, he didn't really recognize Chara as a Human anymore and Frisk actually went a long way towards keeping him from being as phobic of Humans as he is of cats.

The real reason the other skeletons didn't get involved is because the Sciency Boys, Red, Sans, and Stretch, were afraid of what would happen if the anomalous effect increased too much. The last thing they wanted was for Undertale to collapse like Underfell and Underswap did, who knew where they'd end up, if anywhere. Even Edge could respect that, though he was probably almost chewing off his own hands from the effort of keeping out of it.

So yes, the ending happened much the same way as it did in the game, with a few extra skeletons in the background not getting involved, although its reasonable to assume at least one of them was keeping a close eye on the proceedings, even if he wasn't helping his clone sell toilet paper concert tickets.

As to whether Sans knows the truth, well. What Sans knows about anything is always questionable and whether he'd admit it even more so.
