[INTERVIEW] 120608 B.A.P Bang Yongguk, "first attempt of creating a love song with fans"

Now is the season of emergence of idols in the music industry from spring to autumn. With the numerous number of idols, there's a noticeable talented group who knows what they're doing, a 6-member group, B.A.P. One of the members in the group, is the leader whose name is a crazed since pre-debut with his underground activities, Bang Yongguk. Bang Yongguk was asked to create a 'love song' together with his fans. With approximately over 300 fans joining in the event of <The Star 3 year anniversary event-make a love song together with Bang Yongguk> Bang Yongguk was given the mission of making a love song together with the fans. It will then be rounded to the final five lyrics where it will later be checked using his eyes and emotions, Bang Yongguk will then later chose a love song lyric written by a fan to create that love song. Bang Yongguk has already participated in the composing and lyric-writing in their debut album and 2nd single album, and the newest album <No Mercy> with the song 'Voice Message' and his duet song with Beast Yang Yoseob, 'I Remember', he participated in the lyric-writing and composing, recognizing his skills as a potential producer to music fans. But, B.A.P is a group which mainly focuses on hip-hop genre music that delivers messages, it's a little bit concerning to see if they can produce a song with the trembling of 'love confession' atmosphere. However, the concerns seems to be just a false alarm in this video when Bang Yongguk created the song. On the 25th, in the studio of TS Entertainment at Hannamdong, Yongsan, Seoul, Bang Yongguk took the day to shoot for the love song creation, together with fans. The world can see how hilarious it turned out to be. At that time, they don't attempt to show the colors of the music real well but instead they shoot the set with excitement and happiness as they work with the fans and creating in a bright and cheerful atmosphere. In the original planning, the fans were to prepare the lyrics and Bang Yongguk will create a melody that fits the love song but due to the short production period, it was suggested that he did rap-making instead. Fans were to write the lyrics with 140 character limit and then it will be edited to harmonize with the song. Bang Yongguk then found 2 columns for the lyrics perfectly. 'This is not even a roller coaster ride. You're the one that makes this exciting' was some part of the lyrics and what song will the lyrics be with. Bang Yongguk chose American famous rapper, Rick Ross's song Here I Am (Intrumental Version) to be the background music. Him and Rick Ross shows a rather similarity in voice and the song Here I Am has a fresh melody. "I would like to make the lyrics to work with this song" he said as the reason for the song selection. Prior to the creating of the love song, Bang Yongguk said, "The theme drives to make good music, the composer / lyricist will focus on that theme in completing the song. So that the music won't lose its value, you have to be clear to the theme so that good music will continue to exist". The lyrics will be meaningless or damaged if the language created from 'instant music'. The trend of music is not important but you must know how to communicate with the public, this is one of the worries faced by idols. Bang Yongguk's firm belief is that music is something that you have to feel and enjoy in one's musical mind. Returning back to the shooting site, the lyric was written by 17 year old, Jung Hyein, and Bang Yongguk made a video call with her, showing off his trademark of gum exposure. Since he doesn't have a handphone, a live video call was made instead to finish the love song with Miss Hyein. After a live show of the love song was done, Bang Yongguk asked what title should the love song be and Miss Hyein instantly shouted "Bang Yongguk You're Mine (방용국 내꺼)". With that Bang Yongguk and MC Himchan agreed and said "It depends on when to call it 'Bang Yongguk You're Mine' (we can put other member's name too) and also used it like "Jonguppie You're Mine"". The song is later called "Mine". Also through the video call, Bang Yongguk said, "I'm giving you an opportunity to ask me a question and I'll answer it honestly" and Miss Hyein asked what is Yongguk's ideal type. Bang Yongguk answered "someone who respects the elderly, one crosses the street while holding hands of the elderly is my ideal." Though the video call was short but everyone seems to have a glowing heart once it's done. The song, Mine, or 'Bang Yongguk, You're Mine' was completed and Bang Yongguk told fans, "I wish to participate in more events with fans in the future, if given the opportunity, I want to create a love song with the title 'BABY' (B.A.P's official fanclub name)" which rises much expectation on the next album. Lastly, is the list of Bang Yongguk's recommended music. ◆ B.A.P Bang Yongguk's valuable music 1) John Legend's debut album <Get Lifted> : It's the album where John Legend swept the Billboard R&B chart and become nominated. Bang Yongguk said "I recommend you to listen to the song 'Ordinary People' & 'Used to Love U2'". 2) 'Hip Hop King''s NAS 2012 newest release <Life Is Good> : Bang Yongguk said "NAS has finally released in album in 4 years. Though I haven't been playing it a lot, but I consider it as a really good album. There's a handful of good hip-hop in 2012. Especially 'Bye Baby' and 'Cherry Wine (feat. Amy Wineshouse)' that I hope you could listen to." 3) Lil Rob - Summer Nights : Even when I stand still, the sweats will flow endlessly thus I recommend this song for this kind of weather. Bang Yongguk said "Since it's sunny and hot, this is a good song to listen to. Though it has a low melody but it's refreshing to be listen to during summer."

Q1: What is each member’s strength?

Himchan: Daehyun is friendly. He’s easy to make friends with. Daehyun: Yongguk hyung is the leader and he makes a very good leader. Yongguk: Zelo, although is the maknae, he learns very fast. Being the hyung , i feel proud of him. Zelo: Jongup hyung is a very patient person although our age difference is only 1 year, he is very matured. Jongup: Youngjae hyung is a very funny and care-free person. Originally, Himchan hyung was the one that brightens up everyone's mood but now Youngjae hyung also plays his part in it. Youngjae: Himchan hyung is the same as me. He's likes to joke around and brightens up everyone’s day. *laughs* The first impression that BAP gave to the public is fierce, but thanks to Himchan hyung everyone has changed their views on us. (in a good way)

Q2. What is B.A.P’s weakness? Himchan: Daehyun is from Busan therefore his actions may cause misunderstandings because boys from Busan gives off a very manly and strong vibe.. hmmm.. You can say that he is stubborn too. So, because of that it was hard to communicate with him at first but now i am used to it.. *turns to look at Daehyun* ‘Saya Sayang Kamu’! (trans: I love you!) Daehyun: Because Yongguk hyung is the leader, he has many things that he keeps to himself. He didn’t like showing others his strengths and weaknesses. And because of that i couldn’t find out his weakness. Yongguk: Zelo is the maknae but his life compared to other kids of his age is different. And because of that, it is rather pitiful. Zelo: Jongup hyung’s weakness is ...... i still haven’t thought of it. *laughs* Jongup: Sometimes Youngjae hyung overreacts when he is too happy. He could hit people randomly when he is too happy. Most of the time, i would get hit and it is rather painful. Youngjae: Himchan hyung is the same as me. He could overreact when he is too happy. His personality and age does not match.

Q3. Which word/phase do you often say daily?

Himchan: Daebak.

Daehyun: Heol~ (said when surprised or scared) Yongguk: Haaa...(a smiling gesture) *shows his gummy smile* Himchan: Ah! i have something else to say. Jongup-ah *calling Jongup's name*... He will reply me with a word that he always says. Jongup: Ne.... Zelo: Hyung.. Jongup: Ah~ Jeongmallyo? (really?) Youngjae: Mwohaniya? (what are you doing?)

Q4. Which member is the most self-conscious of his looks? Himchan: *immediately raises hand* Me! Yes, me! *looks at Daehyun and apologizes because Daehyun was about to answer the question first.* Daehyun: We are both are very interested in fashion so we usually finds out Yongguk: This is why they spend 30 minutes just to prepare before they leave the dorm.

Q5. Among the members of B.A.P, who would you like to exchange your life with?

B.A.P: *laughs* no one!

Youngjae: i like being myself. i love myself. *laughs*

Q6. What do you think will happen to BAP after 10 years? Himchan: All our members are very passionate and love music, so we will still remain as B.A.P even after 10 years.

Q7. After debuting for quite some time, which performance is the most memorable to B.A.P? Himchan: Previously, we went to Macau for the 2012 KPOP NATION CONCERT with SNSD sunbaen, SHINEE sunbae, and U-KISS sunbae. The stage is really big and it is our first time going to Macau to meet our fans. So we enjoyed it alot.

Q8. What is the thing you wanted to do most with your fans? Daehyun: If we are given the chance, we want to meet all of them during showcase or fansign events and we will do everything the fans want.

Q9. Please say something to the Malaysian fans. Himchan: Saya Sayang Kamu. (trans: I love you) Daehyun: This time we come to Malaysia for a showcase but we hope we can keep coming to Malaysia in the near future.
