A gentle breeze swept through the streets causing the leaves of the palm trees to bob lazily. A bright sun shared it’s warm and lifegiving strength while a few clouds drifted sleepily across a blue sky. I was yet another day in Baterilla. The tropical island was alive with life as usual. People in the streets talked and sang, children played and laughed here and the street vendors bellowed out prices on their latest and most eye-catching wares. A few lazy dogs and cats had sought refuge from the warmth and cooled themselves down in whatever shade they could find.
A typical day at Baterilla and Maddy loved them. Returning from her previous engagement the woman was greeted pretty much everywhere she went. She was well known and she knew every single face she saw. They were her patients, young and old, big and small and seeing them beaming with health, thriving, smiling and in good spirit always made her heart flutter. It meant she did a good job being as a doctor. It meant that people would prosper when they were healthy and happy! A group of children who were busy playing hopscotch noticed the woman and it didn't take long before they all hollered at her, waving their arms around while smiling brightly. The young woman was quick to find where the noise was coming from. Instantly, her lips curled up into a sincere and warm smile as she waved back at them while not stopping in her tracks.
That was until she bumped into something or someone. There was something she had missed to spot as she had continued walking at it seemed to have been a man, judging from the person's build. The doctor bounced back, landing on her rear with an audible "ouch!". With a groan, Maddy rubbed her sore backside, looking to the person whom she had so rudely just walked into. It was impressive she had managed to even oversee him since he was, in lack of better words, rather flashy and eccentric to look at.
-"Oh dear, I am so sorry! I didn't see you! Are you okay, are you hurt?"
The woman instantly began asking while still sitting on the ground, not even paying much attention to the fact she seemed to have been more affected by the accident than he.
