South of the Thames

I started the afternoon at the Borough Market across the London Bridge.

From there, I wandered towards the Tate. Perhaps my second favourite modern art gallery ever (after the Pompidou, of course).

Since I last visited in 2013, there is now a whole second building full of exhibits, and a panoramic viewing platform!

It was rather rainy, but fortunately the platform was quite sheltered so I was still able to have my camera out.

After spending many hours looking at the art, I headed across the Millenium Bridge back onto the north side of the Thames.

After watching a really interesting YouTube video on the Barbican Estate I really wanted to have a walk around it.

This brutalist public housing development is one of Britain's finist examples of the architectural style, and was considered quite an influential project in urban design.

The estate tries to integrate plenty of open green space on a dense urban site, and is very pedestrian focused.
