Chapter 189 - Wiltshire Sanatorium Arc
Ch 189: Bard in the Golden Land
Ch 189 is out in Japan!
“I washed ashore in the Golden Land” is the title.
It’s a short chapter, about 11 pages without much text.
Essentially, it takes place in Bard’s POV while he’s presumably unconscious and dying, maybe even when he’s on the operating table.
Bard opens his eyes to the prairie, and is hit in the head. When he turns to see who or what hit him, he’s shocked to see Jr. He also sees his house and his wife, who welcomes him home.
Bard is filled with happiness; he gets a flash of his time in the manor and his clothes and appearance change from his younger, farmer self to his older, chef self, with a whisk in one hand a land a frying pan in the other.
He tells Joana proudly how he can cook a few things now, including Sunny-side up eggs. Jr loves eggs, he says, so Bard replies that he’ll make him as many as he wants!
Then Sebastian suddenly appears, standing between Bard and his old life.
In his characteristic condescending way, he chides Bard. Does he really want to serve his family his food, when he can’t even get eggs right? 80% of the time he burns them, even if they’re scrambled.
The ground beneath Bard crumbles, and faceless people grab his leg, trying to pull him away from his family— Lau, Ada, and the two men Bard had spoken to at the sanatorium—
Sebastian says he believes Bard needs more training.
And kicks him into the abyss.
The chapter ends with Bard flailing as he falls into the darkness.

Happy Father’s Day to the best DILF in kuro 🥺
Joana: Oh? That’s great [that you can cook now]
Bard: Yep, I can cook eggs Sunny side up now!
Bard Jr: I love eggs!!!!

Ch 182: Bard’s Family
This chapter shows us a tiny fraction of Bard’s happy life before he lost his family that tragic night.
His wife was a milkmaid named Joana (with a great rack that didn’t escape Bard’s notice), and his son (as I had suspected) was named after him. This more or less confirms that “Bardroy” is in fact his first name.
His wedding was humble, but Bard was on cloud nine:
And they were both elated by the blessing of their son.
It some how makes things even sadder now that his family has names, huh? 😢😭
Ch183 (p5), The attack part 2
Idk where this arm and hand are coming from above the door frame. Perhaps someone else was living there, too, and was killed in the attic? 🤷🏻♀️
He leaves his burning house and perhaps isn’t sure what to do… until he’s also attacked.
He’s got an arrow in his back, but he still finds the strength to take down the native who shot him with the arrow; at least I’m assuming it’s the same guy.
But his fields have also been burnt down, so there’s nothing left for him here. Besides, I don’t think he wants to stay in a place where his family was killed.
This is where ch183 ends, so I guess next chapter will have him joining the war effort? Either that, or we get back to his new life at the manor? We’ll see.
Ch 183 is out in Japan, and features a heartbreaking cover with Bard and his family, Bard Jr and Joana…
It’s 15 heartrending pages, showing us a little of Bard’s life before, then snapping back to the night his family was killed. We see how Bard reacts.
We get more insight on Bard’s pacifist views— he wishes to peacefully help the natives, who have lost most of their food supply due to the US military over hunting the buffalo. However, he isn’t the leader of the settlement.
When the attack happens, Bard’s world is shattered, and, as I expected, he kills for the first time before abandoning the only home he has ever known…
I will make another post or two soon with my translation of the chapter. I’ve already read and translated it all (except all the sound effects), I just need to put it together. So look forward to that.
