The moment these two reunited it was very tearful and Bard finally understood his young master and Sebastian a bit better

Bardroy Jr stays in the manor now and sees Ciel as a older brother figure of shorts (since I'm a little certain he's young still)

I wanna add some angst with our new AU with the circus troop, that Bard didn't like to look at Doll for the longest time cause she reminded him of Bardroy Jr.

As Bardroy Jr got older he learned how to use the gun much better and doesn't do killings as his father and the other servants do

This helps me to better understand her as a writer. It is a pity that the approach of translators published in official publications does not differ in the same love and scrupulousness regarding the ideas of the author of the manga.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Yen Press’ translation staff and now that I can read Japanese better I like them even less. I’m picky, I’ll admit, but it really hurts when we see stuff like this that takes away from the original author’s intent.

There’s been a few other mistranslations/missed translations I’ve noticed but haven’t been able to post about since I’ve been so low on spoons. But so far none have been as egregious as missing the infamous pun we all love (to hate?)….

Here’s one I discussed in the discord but didn’t make a post about from ch 183–

In the English, Bard calls Joana a “demon” — my sebard heart was like “oh, hahaha he’s always had a thing for demons, I guess” but I hadn’t remembered noticing that from the original so I went back to double check, and that’s because that is not what Bard says at all in the original.

I understand why the translator went with “demon,” and that would have worked fine in another setting, but considering that the manga is about an actual, living demon, using that word when it’s not what Yana intended seems like a poor choice.

What Bard actually says in Japanese is— オニババ

Now, by itself, “oni” can mean demon in English (I think leaving it untranslated or as “ogre” is better, but that’s another argument).

However, “onibaba” is a completely separate word (though in kanji it can use the character for “oni” as in ogre/demon if written that way, but it doesn’t here).

I think “bitch” is much closer to what Bard intended, but if they didn’t want to use such a loaded word, I could understand. I think “witch” or “old hag” might have been better. It would have fit the setting without giving the wrong impression that Bard was saying she was a demon.

So, anyway, yeah, this is a pretty minor point and 99% of people probably didn’t even notice, but since I was answering this ask I figured I may as well bring it up.
