A kiss to the cheek. It was so ordinarily simple he could have laughed if not for the circumstances. Shaking arms were wrapped around his body as the snow beneath them slowly leached any remaining warmth from his body– it was not as if he would need it where he was going.
His armor was cracked open where a claw from a dragon had dragged him down, ripping both the metal and him. “You needn’t shed tears,” His voice was hoarse as he continued. “Do not be sad for I was a man beyond saving.”
“If you must do anything, take hold of your sadness… take hold of it and turn it determination to finish this war.”
His heart was slowing as Adra kissed him once more. It was all that was needed to make the man smile up at her, silently thanking her for being here to witness his last breaths.
One more kiss and he was gone.

I feel this answer depends greatly on his ships, but generally speaking, a thing/situation that touches Janlenoux in this way would likely be someone actually giving a real damn about him. Not just because he’s a valuable knight and a force to be reckoned with in battle. But actually caring about him. Since he comes from rather low birth with a family whose name bears little if any weight in Ishgardian society, he is used to being overlooked for ought else but his talent with a sword.
As to the degree of ‘infatuation’ this causes, it depends on a lot of other factors.

General Opinion: I think a lot of the awkwardness revolves around Mel trying to keep up appearances in knowing more than he lets on, but the truth is the poor guy has never had a more serious relationship and spent the better part of the past few years pining over someone he never even admitted his feelings to. He just admires Adra so much like what can he do he’s just a simple wandering minstrel with a sailing background?? He’s probably a little intimidated by her and constantly needing to impress her somehow PLUS he is a romantic sap so he is just a MESS.
