Barn on the Farm 2019 - 10 Years of Greatness

After spending the last (heavy) week at Glastonbury we were looking forward to a weekend on the idyllic Over Farm in the sun, and it certainly did not disappoint. Despite the dramatic differences between these two festivals - mainly size - there’s one thing that they both share: a strong sense of community. Barn on the Farm attracts a crowd united by a love of music and a desire to discover and support upcoming artists, which sets them apart from the majority of other festivals where large audiences and big headline names are the main feature. This year however attendees were rewarded with two spectacular surprise acts - The Vaccines and George Ezra! 

When we first arrived on the Friday it was easily noticeable how much the festival had grown since last year - not so much in terms of numbers but in variety and quirkiness. The features we loved from last year were still present (plane rides, farm animals even including emus, and general decoration) but there were even more! Two pianos were dotted around the site for party-goers to have their own sing-a-longs and there was a much larger selection of food and general market stalls. There were also special features celebrating BOTF’s 10th anniversary which made for some great photo opportunities:

We saw numerous acts on the Friday that really stood out to us, including Alfie Neale on the BIMM stage, and Mosa Wild and Bloxx on the Outdoor Stage...

 ...and of course, witnessed a spectacular performance from The Vaccines on the Outdoor Stage as Friday’s secret headliner. 

It was truly a privelidge to witness the old tunes we grew up with together with new bangers in such an intimate setting, and the crowd were equally excited by the surprise. 

Our Saturday began with a trip to the conveniently located Toby Carvery for an affordable buffet breakfast (which has always proved very popular with festival-goers) before returning to the site to check out more music. We were thrilled to see The Howl and The Hum play main stage after their brilliant performance in the barn last year, and were equally excited to hear their new material. It’s clear they’ve come a long long way in the space of a year and in our opinion are definitely one to watch!

Later we enjoyed performances by Swim Deep, Nina Nesbitt, Zak Abel, and finally a fittingly rainy show by Dermot Kennedy on the main stage stepping in to replace Sam Fender. Although many were disappointed by Sam’s withdrawal from the weekend, Dermot Kennedy was a brilliant replacement and without a doubt lived up to the headline slot. 

Sunday we also witnessed some impressive and entertaining shows by Lily Moore, Ten Tonnes, Fatherson, and of course ‘The Scottish Beyonce’ himself, Lewis Capaldi. However the day was draped in an aura of mystery and attendees puzzled over the name of the penultimate main stage slot. Who is Reggae Zero? A google search yielded nothing and everyone was equally puzzled as to who this reggae act could be, that was obviously big enough to warrant a main stage slot but were seemingly unknown...

...and it turns out the answer was in front of us all along; Reggae Zero was in fact an anagram of summery indie star George Ezra himself (we were ashamed to not have figured it out sooner)! The look on punter’s faces when he walked out was unforgettable, and we have nothing but praise for festival organizers who not only kept it a secret but made the last night super special!

Incoming: Barn On The Farm

In just over two weeks time, Barn On The Farm will be returning for this year’s event. Unfortunately for those who missed out, the festival has now sold-out, but for those lucky enough to have grabbed a ticket, you are in for one amazing weekend. 

We were lucky enough to attend the festival for the first time last year, and undoubtably has remained a big festival favourite of ours. There is nothing but good words that we can use to describe this festival, from the organisation to the lineup, location to its individuality that sets this festival above the rest. Barn On The Farm provides one of the best atmospheres at any event we’ve attended, and the lineup is a perfect reflection of the energy there. Each year the organisers manage to out-do themselves with the lineup, and this year is no exception. What makes this festival so special, is the intimate moments shared with some of the biggest up-and-coming bands and singers, amongst some of the nicest people we’ve ever met. This year, headliners include Sam Fender and Maggie Rogers, as well as the nation’s favourite, Lewis Capaldi, for a 10th anniversary performance. In addition to these incredible artists, those attending will also be blessed with performances from Zak Abel, Swim Deep, Nina Nesbitt and Ten Tonnes, to name a few. 

Kicking off the weekend, for the lucky few who get to attend, will be the return of Intimate Thursday and Behind Barn Doors Friday. The headliners of both nights are yet to be revealed, but alongside headliners attendees will be immersed in music from the likes of Clean Cut Kid, Declan J Donovan, AU/RA and many more.

Barn On The Farm lineup announced!

Barn On The Farm has announced the lineup for this years festival! The festival will be taking place on 5th to 8th July at Over Farm near Gloucester.

Headliners announced include Tom Grennan for the Saturday and Tom Misch heading the Sunday. Alongside the headliners, Mystery Jets, Fickle Friends, Dermot Kennedy, Pale Waves, Tom Walker, Zak Abel, Carmody, Grace Carter, Ten Tonnes and Bad Sounds amongst many others, with more yet to be announced!
