On my Mothers Side of the family my grandparents and uncles were Michigan farmers. When it comes to my obsession with barns I can’t help but question if farming is something that runs in your blood?  It’s kind of like a craving …. I just want to get in the car and drive down the lanes out in my county and sometimes farther in search of barns.

A few years ago I found the most beautiful barns on Instagram featured by Photographer Brian Dowd. I fell in love with his countryside barn shares and decided to join in the  fun and share some of the structures in my country side.  I had no idea I would become a barn stalking  junkie!

When I was a kid my Dad would load all five of us kids up in the Volkswagen van and take us out for a drive.  It didn’t matter what day or the weather we just hopped in the vehicle and were on our way.  I can remember complaining a few times and wanting to be home but one thing that always kept my interest was my Dads spirit.   Dad always said ” Enjoy the time you have because you never know if you will be back here again in your life time.”    Those words stay with me as an adult and maybe that is why I’m so dedicated to taking as many photos as I can where ever I go.

Last weekend my husband and I took a road trip weekend down to the South.  Our destination : Charlotte , North Carolina. And although I’m a true Midwest gal I love to visit the southern states.  I took advantage of  being the passenger by taking lots of photos and sharing them along the way on social media.   In this post I want to share with you some of my favorite captures from the spring drive down to the south.

Conifers Along The Roadside

We can learn from the Conifers that grow natural along the US Highways.  It is interesting to see what varieties are growing on their own and what conditions.  I also enjoy seeing the natural grasses growing with the conifers in the mountains.

Over the River and Through the … Mountains

This country of ours is simply amazing … I hope you have the opportunity to get out and drive it.  We had a great time chatting as we enjoyed the view along this 7 hour drive.

It’s Nice to get back into the garden after a fun weekend with family and travel.  I brought back lots of ideas from the University of North Carolina Botanical Garden and the adorable McGill Rose Garden.
