Doing art of any sort seems to rely on so much as if it were some magic evocation. A spell that needs the right things to be brought together in the right moment. I've been trying, I really have and it was yesterday the stars aligned; A podcast here, a newspaper item there, the first chapter of a new book.... The right weather and the right things in other people's lives.
I don't remember breakfast, I ate it when the spark lept and then I drew for the first time in a long time. Something worthy of this. It could have stopped there with a tiny newspaper squiggle.
The dog was at the door, a door, it's the closed door and she demands to know what lies beyond it.
I think I said oh shit when the paper tore right through the lines I thought I'd keep.
If you must know...and to cut the tale in two, she went beyond the door. I went and did the above. Using the photo I'd taken and felt it was better and thanked the dogs of mischief that it had spoilt.
Around about lunch much later. I wondered about the work that's never done; books unwritten and art unmade. What human kind could have but doesn't know......what could be done, not undone. Not never seen. Do this, quickly now, before we forget. This great colossus we lose each second. Thank dog for the distraction.
Ad. The podcast was an episode of The Dilemma Podcast. An interview with the philosopher Ian Bogost.
The book was the first chapter of 'Planta Sapiens' by Paco Calvo.
And the news was an item in Live Science about the world if the dinosaurs had not died out.
