These are all in reference to Barrenger (Bear-en-jer) Teshma, my glowy green werewolf-looking guy with superpowers from my WIP book series Outcasts & Runaways! :D

What is the character’s go-to drink order?

WHOA I ACTUALLY KNOW THIS ALREADY FOR HIM!!! Barrenger LOVES a coffee-like drink from his home country called te'coa (teh-KO-a). It's not quite as bitter as coffee and has a thick, fruity flavor (a lot of foods and drinks in his culture tend towards fruity things). It's not just a breakfast drink, either, he'll gladly down a hot, fresh-brewed mug any time of the day!

2. What is their grooming routine? (how do they treat themselves in private)

Barrenger unfortunately has really poor self-image due to his green skin and selah stripes (selah is the glowing soul energy all the humanoid people of this world have that gives them their powers, the color is genetic and shows in their eyes and selah markings). He got these colors from his father, a defector of the Haweyh (Ha-way) peoples' enemy nation, the Rukilef, who also (supposedly) betrayed the Haweyh before disappearing when Barrenger was 10. He wishes he looked more like his mother (brown skin, yellow selah), but he only got the white Haweyh hair.

That being said, he is the son of the nation's prophetess, and he does his best to be put-together and above reproach since people already automatically judge him for his colors. He does let his hair grow slightly longer than is normal for men in his culture because he wants to emphasize that part of him, and he dislikes looking at himself for long in mirrors, so his hair is often a little unkempt unless he's going out in public and takes extra care to look presentable. He has dabbled with growing a short chin-beard (also white) but doesn't have much of one at this point in the story.

7. Describe the shoes they’re wearing.

Normally, he would wear very well-tailored; his family is fairly wealthy, so he gets excellent tailoring. But he tends to favor boots that are sturdy and supple, partly because he works on his hoverbike and with the riding corbays and runs across rooftops at night, and partly on account of how he sometimes gets into altercations with jerks looking for an excuse to beat up a guy who looks like a hated Rukilef (and while he could probably beat THEM up, he would look bad, so running is usually the better option).

At the current point of the story, though, he's 100% barefoot, on account of getting shapechanged by his evil aunt into his current werewolfy form and his feet (paws?) not being a conducive shape for shoes.

8. Describe the place where they sleep. (ie what does their safe space look like. How much (or how little) care / decoration / personal touch goes into it.)

Hmmm, I did describe his room once but it could use more details! I imagine it being a room on the ground floor and having one or two windows that he mostly only opens at night to let cool breezes in (they live in a hot semi-tropical climate). He is rather messy in there since it's his private space where he doesn't have to worry about how others perceive him. He collects various knickknacks related to his interests or important memories (he really treasures a second-place trophy he got in a hoverbike race when he was 17-18). Right before the book's plot really got going, a certain pair of familiar swords with a lot of tough memories attached got hung on his wall...

10. What objects do they always carry around with them?

When he got chucked through a portal to Earth, he was freshly werewolf'd and only had the (pretty torn-up) clothes on his back, so he doesn't have anything specific he carries around atm. I imagine he would keep little things the kids might give him in his pockets, though (he would be very touched by such gifts, even if he struggled to show it properly).

Back home, though, I'd say the one thing he never left home without is his personal family crest, an identification badge showing he is part of the Teshma household. This is mainly for getting in and out of the gated community his house is in, but also for proving his identity to strangers (and maybe reminding himself on particularly bad days)

Finally finished this piece! :D The joke here is that @jenniferbrincho and I discovered that both our main characters started as Danny Phantom fan characters. So naturally, I had to draw them all interacting. XD My guy Barrenger (wolfy-lookin’ dude) was modeled after Wulf’s species originally. (Now he naturally looks more human if not for shapeshifting shenanigans, thus him thinking these other glowing-eyed individuals are also tulinai, his race. Everyone is confused and it’s great.)

Check it out!!! I got drawn in @enjoliquej ‘s follower milestone raffle and got a bust sketch of my boy Barrenger! I LOVE IT HE LOOKS SO GREAT! :D I’m always curious how he will look in other artists’ drawing styles and this is now one of my favorites!

FINALLY!!! Man I procrastinated on this, and then the site was completely frozen yesterday from all the activity. XD But I got my Art Fight page and trainer card up to date!

I'm mostly only planning to respond to attacks this year, unless I get inspired to randomly attack a friend. Yes, this may result in my getting no art this year, but hopefully this will be a nice easy way to get myself arting a bit more without overloading myself! My characters are more or less arranged in the order of how much I would like to get art of them, but they are all up for grabs. =D (And I'm pleased it finally occurred to me to include Ol' Stinky Jess on here XD I would LOVE some fanart of her!)

Shoutout to my friend on Discord who doesn’t have a tumblr but he reads MY tumblr and wanted to get in on the recent Ask Game! :D Let’s do this!

Oooo you know I WANT to pick Pirates! There is the moral question, of course. But depending on the Nobles in question, both can have rather violent histories, so I suppose I’m free to go by aesthetics, in which case it’s Pirates all the way :D

Oh, Enemies-to-Lovers DEFINITELY! None of that tragic stuff, give me two idiots who can’t stand each other (or are on opposite sides) but, after being forced to work together or get to know each other, end up falling in like (and then love). :D

Oh hmm that’s a good question! I will go with Barrenger’s world for this one. For the tulinai (the human-like people of Thera, who have vibrant skin/hair/eye colors and glowy energy powers), some of their most legendary heroes are those who were blessed with one of the seven Maker Gifts, the rarest powers only granted by the Maker Himself, and then the person did something extraordinary with that gift to help their people or defeat a great foe. But on a smaller scale, a person who courageously saves lives or defends the weak would be considered a hero to the Haweyh, while the Rukilef are more likely to see someone who has defeated many enemies as a hero.

The best thing imo about Thera may be the chargestone technology. All tulinai have selah, a sort of soul energy that can manifest as specific gifts (powers) for each individual. But chargestone is a type of stone that can store selah, similar to a battery, and be used to channel a tulinai’s energy into another object, making it stronger or simply giving it power or function. The Hawayh have rich resources of chargestone and thus a lot of things that run on chargestone, from weapons to ovens to hoverbikes! :D (And they glow, which I’m all about, love me some glowy stuff)

Outcasts & Runaways - Book 2 Snippet

[[Wanted to share one of my favorite scenes from book 2 of my WIP O&R series. =D For context: Barrenger is from another reality and just spend multiple pages angsting. The kids are humans. Lyra is mute but can imperfectly speak using her noise-controlling powers. Brock controls electricity. Shannon has superspeed. Jenny is 6 and can make strange animal critters appear.]]

As his hand closed on the doorknob, Barrenger consciously slipped on the reserved mask he wore in public, feeling it settle over his features like a familiar shield. They’d already seen his mask crack—alright, shatter was a better description—but that stopped now. No matter how bizarre this world might be, no matter how much his injuries still ached and his emotions threatened to rip out of his control, he would hold it together until he had to make his own way. He would not be caught off-guard again.

Barrenger opened the door to small-scale chaos.

“Whooooo!!!” Brock darted past, trailing a strange black rope that crackled and sparked. “Hey, Bear-Guy’s awake! Bear-guy, I found a live power cable!” The sheer glee in the kid’s voice triggered warning flags deep in Barrenger’s subconscious. Black scorch marks lined the concrete floor in a trail behind the kid, and Barrenger felt the absolutely peculiar sensation of every hair on his furry body standing up in a sudden wave of static.

“Puuuuuttt thhaaaat doooowww—” Lyra’s whispering words were louder and more labored than usual, like an irritated and very slow spirit howling at the punk kids invading its castle. It made Barrenger’s ear canals itch. Then a white blur whipped past, and Brock yelled. Sparks flashed a second before Shannon solidified into view with an angry screech.

“You shocked me, you bat! That hurt!”

“I said I was live, serves you right! Who’s scared to spar now?”

Jenny sat on the floor next to the strange lamp [camp lantern], happily surrounded by two colorful, furry creatures and a hulking reptile half as tall as Barrenger. They appeared to be having tea with discarded metal parts for cups. The reptile was yellow, orange, and purple, and had a hat.

There were too many things to stare at. Barrenger looked at the one that felt the least concerning. “Uh . . . Lyra? What, uh . . .” This was going to be harder than he’d thought.

I’m feeling very happy after a super positive review from my niece who beta read book 2 of my series-in-progress, and also I wrote a funny scene for book 3 last night, so I’m gonna roll like a proper Writeblr person and share a snippet. Please enjoy!

(Context: Barrenger is from another dimension where everyone is interesting colors and have glowing energy powers and patterns, and Mercury is driving.)

“And on that note, it’s my turn!” Mercury’s mouth scrunched in thought as she reviewed what he had explained. “So the Hawaii—”

“Haweyh.”

“Right, the Ha-way are brown. Sort of like Brock?”

“Sort of. The tone is a little different, though. More…earthy, maybe?”

A snore from the back let the driver and front passenger know that Brock, much like Lyra and Shannon, was sound asleep and would not be contributing to the conversation. They moved on.

“And they have white hair. And yellow-gold glowing skin in kind of…splotchy patterns?”

“That’s not…the exact way we describe it.”

“How did you describe it?”

“They’re just called selah patterns. And they’re…kind of random and irregular and…”

“Splotchy?”

Barrenger sighed. “Sure. Splotchy.” He could imagine certain Haweyh priests clutching their chests at such a crass description, but whatever. And the widely varied patterns could be kind of…well, splotchy.

Mercury nodded once in satisfaction, although she didn’t take her eyes off the road. Her fingers tapped the steering wheel thoughtfully. “So that’s your mom’s people. And your dad’s, the Rukilef—“

“Rukilef,” he corrected automatically, then grimaced repentantly as he realized she’d said it right.

Mercury had the grace to not do more than grin at him before continuing. “They’re all dark green, like you, and black or really dark green hair, and the neon-green stripes. Hey, do the skin tones vary a lot?”

That was a good question. He closed his eyes and thought back to the Rukilef he’d seen in Salein’s encampment—it was the only time he had actually seen large groups of his father’s people. “Some. I’ve seen a few who were even darker than me, almost black, but others were closer to…” He looked out the window at the landscape rolling past, and pointed. “Like those leaves.”

Mercury glanced out the window to where he was pointing. “Oh, oak leaves! Great reference point.” She gave him a quick, critical study before looking back at the road. “I think I’d call you forest green. I always liked that color,” she added offhandedly.

Barrenger opened his mouth to respond, but paused. He…couldn’t think of the last time someone had said they liked his color. Aside from his mum, of course. He glanced over to see Mercury casting him concerned looks. “Oh crap, did I say something weird? You’re going to have to let me know these things, I don’t want to be offensive or accidentally propose marriage or something.“

A laugh burst out of him before he could stop it, and he spent the next minute or two turned toward the window and struggling to get himself under control.
