“The Diver” was conceived and executed as the landing page illustration for Barry Downard’s website landing page. In his words: “I am a firm believer in the idea that life is too short to just do one thing, and I have worked, and still do work in a number of creative fields… photo-illustration, photography, art direction, advertising, graphic design, interior design, metalwork, blacksmithing, film, and teaching photography.
I love the creative process, in all it's forms, and love exploring different media and means of creative expression. It all comes down to ‘problem solving,’ the thrill of execution, and mastery of technique.
I enjoy the never-ending quest for learning skills, studying detail and materials, and pushing the boundaries of craft. Interestingly, It is a truism that on any one project, you bring into play everything you have experienced in your life up to that point, and I find that the collective experience on all the disciplines provide me with invaluable collective insight in the execution of any project.
For my website landing page, I wanted an image that would express the multi-disciplinary aspect of what I do… a juggling deep sea diver riding a unicycle seemed to fit the bill.”
