Brady shrugged. “Barry’s been more of a dad to me than Ryder has, so…” His expression became pensive. “Do you think Barry would mind if I called him ‘dad’?”
This is the best I could do. It was hard with Jessica Lowndes taking up half his face, lol. So I just flipped Kristin and did my best to edit them together. I know you wanted them almost kissing but you’d see too much of Jessica’s face if I did it that way so I went for a full-ish kiss.
Summary – Team Flash are ready to ring in the New Year but a meta pops up and tears Barry away. He promises he won’t be late for the ball drop but Cadence isn’t too sure.
Words: 1207
Team Flash needed some time to unwind after the year they had. So, of course they were going to have a New Year’s party. And, with Cadence’s upbringing in Metropolis, she knew how to throw a party and she especially knew how to throw a New Year’s party.
Sure, there was the Ball Drop Bash that Jitters put on every year. But they needed some time to be able to be themselves at a party and not freak out about someone drunkenly admitting what they did when most of Central City wasn’t looking.
Cisco had grumbled an apology, muttering something about “Someone had to test the liquor for Barry to get drunk”, while Caitlin smiled serenely and placed a hand on his shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, it’ll just be everyone who knows our identities at this party.”
Still, to be on the safe side, Cadence decided to have the party at hers and Brady’s apartment. Of which Brady was more than excited about. Then again, she was sure it was due to being able to stay up rather than having to beg and sneak his way around to do it.
Once the plans were made, Cadence teleported into Barry’s office at the CCPD, making him look over in surprise. His eyes widened ever so slightly at her appearance next to him. “What’s going on?” He asked. “You can’t just…pop into my office like that.”
Cadence’s eyes narrowed in confusion. “You run all over the city, Barry! I can blink and you’ll be in the next room and back with no thought to it.”
Barry folded his arms, leaning back in his seat. “Captain Singh was just in here; you could’ve given yourself away.” Cadence gave him a look. “Okay, I get your point. What’s up?”
“We’re having a New Year’s party at the loft—”
“—Sounds fun—”
“—And the only thing I’m asking is that you’re not going to be late.”
Barry adopted a slightly wounded expression. “What makes you think I’m going to be late?”
“Because you’re you.”
His expression became even more wounded. “It’s not like I do it on purpose!”
“I know.” Cadence held up a hand, a fireball appearing above her fingers. She bounced it back and forth over her fingertips as she continued to speak. Though Barry was sure there was a bit of an unspoken warning. “But we all need a break, you especially. And it’s one of the few times that we can all have a good time before something, inevitably, goes wrong. I just want us all to have a good time and I want you to be there.”
They were newly dating, of course she wanted him at the party.
Barry nodded, seeming to understand that. He reached across his desk and grabbed her hand. “I promise, I’ll be there.”
-
The party was going well; Caitlin, Cisco, and Harrison had all arrived on time, Brady and Conner were having a good time yelling over whatever game it was they were playing over their handheld games, even Oliver, Felicity, Roy, and Diggle had shown up on time. Iris and Joe had come by with their traditions of the West family, even Ryder had popped by to wish his ex a happy new year.
They were all mingling together and seeming to enjoy the lavish party she managed to throw in the one-bedroom apartment.
Still, the only person she really wanted there, apart from Brady, wasn’t there. Part of her understood, Barry had said he was going to stop by Iron Heights and spend some time with his dad. But then they had gotten an alert of a meta and Barry had raced off to do that, waving off Cadence’s offers to go with him to help take down the meta.
“It’s just a bank robber, I’ll be there and back before you even know it,” Barry had said confidently.
And it’s not that it was really a big deal, he was just going to be her plus one for the party. And had even made sure not to roll his eyes at Cadence’s insistence of everyone being dressed to the nines in their best suits and dresses just to stay in an apartment. Actually, Barry was the only one excited to be able to dress up.
Then the meta popped up and he had a duty to go protect the city. That was fine, she understood. Hell she could even see him from the fire escape, watching his lightning streak zip back and forth across the city as he took on…whatever it was. Still, she continued to opt to sit on the fire escape, her gown be damned. She wasn’t really enjoying the party anyway, realizing too late she hadn’t even wanted to throw one, just wanted to spend some quiet time with her son and boyfriend.
Yet, years of her mother’s influence had been so engrained in her that she couldn’t help but fall back into what was normal for her.
“Mom! Come on!” Before she knew it, Brady had wandered into their room and poked his head out the window. He clambered onto the fire escape and grabbed his mother’s hand, pulling her back inside. “We’re about to do the countdown! Come on! Come on!” As he dragged her through the window, waiting patiently as she moved her dress out of harm’s way he asked, “Do I have to go to bed as soon as it hits midnight?” He tugged at the collar of his suit, nose wrinkling in discomfort.
“We’ll see, bud,” she replied, affectionately ruffling his hair.
The two slipped back into the apartment as the countdown, led by Iris, continued.
“Ten…Nine…Eight…Seven…”
For a brief moment, Cadence wondered what would happen if she decided to teleport to New York and set the ball on fire. The thought made her smile.
“What’s so funny, mom?” Brady asked, glancing up at her.
“Nothing.”
A familiar woosh reached her ears, her hair blew around her face when Barry appeared in front of her, dressed to the nines in a tux.
“Two...One...”
“You’re la…” the words weren’t able to leave Cadence’s lips as she was silenced by Barry’s deep kiss.
“Happy New Year!”
“I’m just in time,” he murmured, making her smile before they kissed again.
Ri! You're back!! ^_^ OTPs and Self Ships ask for . . . I'm tempted to ask for Cade and Barry, but anyone you like #1, 5, 16, 17, 47 anndd 58! Enjoy!
I'm gonna do BarryCade because I love and miss the hell out of the two of them!
Who would end a heated argument by defending their actions with ‘because I love you!’ ?
Barry. He's the paragon of love! If anyone in life loves love, it's Barry. To the extent that if he had the fate of the entire world he had to save (which clearly happens because it's Central City) and Cadence that he had to save as options he would find a way to confess his love to her in either option and prove his decision by bringing it back to how much he loves her. If they were arguing with each other he would absolutely say it.
5. Describe their cozy night in.
I'm pretty sure by this point I've done it in a one-shot or in the actual series but their cozy night in is them sitting on the fire escape, looking out over the city wrapped in each other's arms and just spending that time together. Of course at some point something going on in the city is going to have them run out to save it, but sitting quietly under the stars and looking over the city is great for them.
16. Can they stay up all night just talking?
100%. To the point that Cade gets annoyed and wants to sleep but Barry just keeps talking. His brain moves too fast for him to not have a thought in his head that he wants to address. But she loves him enough that she sleepily responds to whatever he wants to talk about.
17. Who’s more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?
Cadence! Because she's A) much stronger than him and can do it, B) because she's too short to hug him around the neck, and C) she's more affectionate than Barry and kisses him all the time.
47. Does either of them have a secret that could potentially ruin their relationship?
Well Cade kept it a secret that Brady was her son when they first met, she tried to kill him when they first met, she still has ties to the organization she worked with that murdered people for money...so a few. But the biggest one that would probably be a legitimate relationship issue is (and I haven't revealed this in fic yet) that Cade first killed someone when she was 13/14 years old.
58. Who’s more likely to hold a grudge after an argument?
Barry. We've seen him on the show, he can hold a grudge like no one's business when he truly feels he's justified with that grudge. Cade, in comparison, can get over it pretty fast.

Chapter Forty
Brady turned from the stove and furrowed his brows. “I mean, it’s not like everything’s supposed to stay the same, right?” He asked. “I know time travel is a thing and I know Barry tends to mess things up with time, but it’s not like we can change the current time without changing the past.” He shrugged. “The future, maybe. But we can’t change right now.”
Shaking her head, Cadence gazed at Brady. “How did you get to be so smart?”
At that, Brady shrugged. “You’re the daughter of Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan. And you’re engaged to one of the nerdiest people I’ve ever met, something was bound to rub off on me.” He smiled when she laughed. “Can’t say that Ryder has done much for me,” he added under his breath.
There was a long moment of silence. Brady took that time to get out from beneath his mother’s gaze and turned his attention back to the spaghetti cooking on the stove. He finished cooking the sauce and noodles and started to plate the food. He could feel his mother’s gaze burning a hole through him—to the point that he had to stop and check to see if she was doing so.
“Since when do you call him Ryder?”
“What do you mean?”
It was an innocent question, but he knew exactly what she was getting at. So much so that he didn’t have to lift his gaze to know she what expression was on her face. It was one that only parents seemed to perfect; where they already knew the answer and was simply waiting for the truth.
“I mean, since you started calling him ‘dad’ that’s all you called him. And that was two years ago. But recently you’ve stated calling him Ryder again.”
“Um.” Brady pursed his lips and looked his mother in the eye. “It’s not like he wants me around. He doesn’t do anything with me when he has me.”
Cadence shook her head. “Ryder loves you.”
“I know. Because he’s my dad. But…” Brady slowly shook his head. His heart rate increased, maybe a warning of saying what he’d been feeling for a long time. Or maybe fear, not knowing how to take the words back once they were out there. “He’s not my dad. When I’m with him he’s always busy with work and I’m bored. That’s…kind of why we went out that night, to stop Black Bison. Ryder wasn’t paying attention to us anyway and…I think he’s scared of me.”
A hurt expression came across Cadence’s face. Not hurt from his words, not from any guilt she was putting on her own shoulders, he could tell. He recognized that look of hurt. This was a look of hurt of not noticing the split between them sooner and addressing it. (And something else, but she was able to keep that away from him).
Emotion suddenly swirled through Brady, and he dropped onto his stool, staring at the ribbons of steam that lifted and swirled trough the air while the plates cooled. “I didn’t mean to break his leg! I couldn’t control it! Something happened with my powers, and I couldn’t stop it! He’s scared of me, I can tell!”
“This isn’t your fault, bud. It’s mine, too.”
At her words, Brady looked up.
“I focused more on you having him back in your life because he’s your dad. I didn’t really put much thought into how you felt about it or how things would go moving forward…” Cadence ran a hand through her hair, sighing heavily. “Your dad and I…we never really talked about you and me being metas. I thought he was okay with it, but it’s clear he’s not. He’s seen all of the things we’ve had to deal with as metas, he was there when we were trying to stop Zoom. He’s a human who got a good look into this world and it’s not for him. And I shouldn’t have tried to push it on him, or his relationship on you.”
“That’s not your fault, mom.”
“No. But us thinking that we could have the life we wanted before is.” Cadence reached out and grasped Brady’s hand in hers, squeezed it tightly. He smiled at the warmth from her hand, the warmth that had been ever present, even when he was an infant. “That’s not the life we have anymore. I can’t keep pretending I’m sixteen years old and I’m having a baby with my boyfriend. We live two different lives now and we need to accept it.” She drew her hand back to her lap. “It’s your choice whether or not you want to continue to see him, but after what happened with our bachelor and bachelorette parties…it’s clear that Ryder can’t be the dad to you that we wanted.”
“Barry’s been more of a dad to me than he’s been anyway, so…” Brady’s expression became pensive. He chewed his lower lip, pressing his hands to the side of the counter. He leaned against his hands, rocking back and forth a few times. He could see his mother patiently waiting for him to ask the words that weren’t coming to him as quickly as he’d wanted. “Um…do…do you think Barry, um, do you think Barry would mind if I called him ‘dad’?”

Chapter Thirty-Five
“So, what are Amunet’s plans for the Weeper?”
You couldn’t wait even a minute for that? Killer Frost opened her eyes to find Cadence staring directly at her. The corner of Killer Frost’s lips turned up into a smirk. “Not my problem.”
“The Weeper was put on that bus, we turned him into a meta.” Cadence spread her hands, her fingernails starting to glow a dull orange. Smoke trailed from her fingertips. “It is our problem.”
Killer Frost pretended to think, going as far as to tap her cheek with her fingertip, making Cadence roll her eyes. “Mm, I don’t think so.” She turned on her heel and started to walk away, toward the entrance to the alley they stood in. “Right now, I need to get to another Earth…”
“Where you’ll just keep running,” Cadence commented.
The words made Killer Frost halt in her tracks. She turned, blonde hair brushing over her shoulder and smiled at the fire metahuman. “Don’t be cute, Cadey. I mean, you are cute, but you don’t need to push it any further.” She started away once more.
Cadence raised her hands, slapped them to her sides. “Well, it’s better than running scared.”
Once again, Killer Frost was stopped with those words. But instead of the lighthearted tone to her words, they turned steely. Ice cold. “Scared? You think I’m scared?” She laughed, shaking her head. “You think you know me? I mean, you think you know me, but you know Caity.”
“You’re right.” Cadence started toward Killer Frost. “I know Caitlin. And I know when she’s scared. And that’s the same look you’re giving me now.”
Killer Frost smiled.
“You think I’m going to kill you,” Cadence realized after a second.
A/N: I recently re-read my BarryCade one-shot Barefoot Summer (which I think is also posted here) and it helped me with this, so think of it like a companion piece. And this kiiinda subversts the prompt but...I like it, lol

Central City was caught in a rainstorm. Stronger than a drizzle but lesser than a storm. So much so that no one on team Flash felt the need to look to see if there was a meta having a field day practicing their abilities.
A rainy day where no one was to be caught in the rain, clothes soaking wet and with humidity making things worse. No, it was a day to be caught in the rain, inside. With nowhere to go. Nothing to do. An almost boring rainy day.
But that day Barry and Cadence stayed in bed, watching as the rain pattered against the window that overlooked their fire escape, watching the gloom cast over Central City. From Cadence, Barry felt nothing but warmth as they lay with her head on his chest and legs tangled up in sheets. From Barry, Cadence felt an ever present, light twitching through his fingers and legs. His desire to go outside and run making him antsy. The way it always did, a light reminder of the Speed Force that ran through his veins even in his slowest moments.
Despite the warmth she produced and the tingling of his skin, neither wanted to move from the bed. From Cadence gently tracing circles on Barry’s chest to him allowing strands of her hair to fall through his fingers as he ran his hand through her hair.
After a minute, Barry turned his head and pressed a kiss to Cadence’s forehead, then leaned further down to pull her in for a kiss. Cadence smiled and lifted her arm, pulling him tight against her. It wasn’t an erotic kiss by any means, nothing that’d lead to any more strenuous rainy day activities, but one that was a simple showing of love that still encompassed them as did the sheets around their legs.
The kiss ended, their eyes met, they smiled at each other. Brought their hands up and laced their fingers together. Smiled wider.
The next day would be a sunny one, per the forecast. A day where they went back to normal. Where they went through their lives, went about their day with their jobs, stopped whatever meta or criminal popped up that day.
There weren’t many times they had days off to themselves, so, unlike most people, they enjoyed the rain, watching it patter against the window as they laid in bed.
