BARRY REIGATE @barryreigate I have a physical instalment of works at Castor Projects right now that can be seen online. These are works on paper, mixed media drawings. I’ve always made these over the years but for the past 4-5 months I got back into them & especially during lockdown. It's been a weird 2020. I moved into a new studio at end of January after not having a studio, since I moved out of my last one at the beginning of December. I was supposed to start a new mural commission in the lobby of a new build above Kings Cross in January, but kept being pushed so I was in a sort of limbo about making work and without a studio. This led me into making work at home. I started the wall painting with 3 assistants & this virus started really kicking off & it felt like we had to complete a job, that would take 6 weeks in half the time as we saw that lockdown was impending, but the owner of building was still adamant to having a launch on 22nd April. It was a stressful situation, a building site full of people & all of us working on job were concerned about getting Covid. Eventually, when the job was almost completed I started showing all the symptoms of the virus & had to stop the job & isolate, leaving all my equipment out on site. The owner understood, & by now, lockdown was in place but building sites remained open, & the owner had cancelled the opening. While isolating, I rang up Andy at Castor because I saw that he had to shut down his current exhibition & asked him, how he was going to deal with this issue & running a gallery during the pandemic. We got onto talking about how galleries are doing online shows & I told him about these drawings I had been doing. I had about 25 of them at the time & sent them over to him. We then decided to physically show them on cork installed in his space. They also seemed right in regards to the situation right now with what was going on. So, I got the drawings sent down to Castor & Andy installed them by himself. After the drawings were opened online & over 3 weeks later, I decided to go back onsite to check on tools for mural.
