Imagine the boys had made it out of WW2 and after a while Steve and Peggy get engaged. Bucky is heartbroken but he knew it would happen and at least “the dame” loved him before he was big and sexy.
He still hangs out with Steve which makes him happy. It was all he hoped for. He even gets real close to Peggy and she introduces him to her people – including Angie. She is so pretty and talented and sweet. Heck! Why not? So he dates her, proposes to her and she says yes. Thing is… Angie never kisses him and she is more interested in hanging out with Peggy. He consults Steve but he only says that maybe Angie got real shit by bad men in the past. “Peggy even had to save her once in the very diner she worked at! Imagine!”
So Bucky is all gent and sweet but close to the marriage date he asks her openly if he did something wrong. Angie is missing words because: “Wait? You like me? I mean… me?” And Bucky is totally taken aback too because “Well, yeah. That’s where the marriage business comes in…” And after a while Angie tells him: “I am so sorry, Bucky. I totally misunderstood. I believed that… you see… I know what it means to not get the one you really want. I know your gazes… they are mine when I look at Peggy…” And it takes almost a full minute before the shoe drops and Bucky is all defensive because two people of the same sex?! What is this dame thinking?! But in the end it is true. The one he really wants is Steve.
He decides it wouldn’t be fair to marry Angie if he doesn’t really love her, so he breaks off with Angie. Next day a very angry Peggy is standing in front of his door and wants to know what got into him. She’s totally furious and it is the first time that Bucky thinks that maybe Angie’s feelings aren’t totally in vain. Maybe Peggy likes Angie more than she thinks. So he makes a very arbitrary comment but Peggy totally is not taking his shit and tells him explicitly that she indeed loves Steve and Angie the same way. Also, she was hoping he would want to marry Angie so they can all be together… because she knew ever since the night in the bar in London where Bucky’s heart really lies. Bucky is totally ashamed. Peggy is annoyed. Bucky asks if Steve knows anything about the plan that the girls came up with. Peggy thinks that he is hilarious because Steve didn’t even get that she was hitting on him when she practically screamed it. But she is very confident that Steve loves Bucky too because he only ever talks about Bucky. That’s totally news to him and he asks what exactly Steve is telling her about him and Peggy answers: “Only the good stuff. The bad I get to hear from Angie.”
Sorry for my bad English... and I didn’t even proofread it... It just had to get out of my system...
