Remembering Pt Bhimsen Joshi on his death anniversary. RIP. One Legend Works with Another #BasantBahar was a musical based on a Kannada novel #Hamsageethe. When producer #RChandra was planning the movie, he wanted to sign up Anil Biswas for music. But actor/producer, Chandrashekhar, who was Shankar's close friend, convinced Chandra and director Raja Nawathe to have Shankar Jaikishan compose the music instead. With a great reservation, they both signed up SJ and history was made that moment when the legendary composers came together with legendary classical singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi for one of the best semi-classical songs in Hindi music history. Not only did SJ compose a masterpiece album, they silenced all who wrote them off as trendy music directors who could never handle classical music. Every one of the nine songs is a gem and SJ's work in this movie rates not only as one of their best, but one of Hindi music's best too. Seen in the picture below are (From left); Shankar, Shailendra, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Manna Dey, Jaikishan and Dattaram at the rehearsal of "Ketaki gulab juhi champakaban phule." Manna Dey was nervous to sing the song with the legendary classical singer, but couldn't imagine that Joshi would commend upon his rendition of the masterpiece.
