Rudra vina (also spelled veena). I'm not sure how old it is, though it's first mentioned in a text from the 15th century and is said to have been invented by Lord Shiva himself. Its repertoire, dhrupad, is ancient.
The vina is technically more of a stick zither than a lute, but players the vina and lute play the same game.
The shaft of the vina represents the cosmic axis and human spine, and the fretted portion is traditionally the length of the navel to the top of the skull.

Listening to Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar’s malkauns on the rudra veena and experiencing what can best be described as a “music coma”. Beautiful!
