Situated around 10 Km outside Basel, this building is the world center for the anthroposophical movement and a masterpiece of modern architecture. Kunstmuseum Basel (extension) | Christ & Gantenbein | 2016 | Basel In 2016, the Kunstmuseum extension was inaugurated in Basel, the Swiss city with forty museums offering the highest museum density in the country. The new building, designed as a place for the display and preservation of works of art, is an element of novelty and continuity with the existing building dating back to 1936 and with the historical context of the city. The various gallery spaces are connected vertically by a monumental staircase, illuminated from above by a large oculus. Grey-veined Carrara marble provides the staircase treads and floor, and the walls are finished in roughly scraped plaster. Nomad Hotel | Buchner Bründler architects | 2014-15 | Basel A fifties apartment house in Basel was carefully renovated by @buchnerbrundler to be converted into an upscale city hotel. The facade of the original building has been preserved and restored, returning it to its original raw concrete surface. The street facade is divided by a concrete relief and is topped off by a new build attic, combining with the precisely formulated aluminium windows to create an exciting relationship between old and new. The extensive glazing of the ground floor, which can be opened up in the summer, shares insights into the bright and open-plan restaurant area. As an architect obsessed with the design and every little detail, it couldn’t be a best place to stay during my last visit to Basel.
