Kunstmuseum Basel (extension) | Christ & Gantenbein | 2016 | Basel In 2016, the Kunstmuseum extension was inaugurated in Basel, the Swiss city with forty museums offering the highest museum density in the country. The new building, designed as a place for the display and preservation of works of art, is an element of novelty and continuity with the existing building dating back to 1936 and with the historical context of the city. The various gallery spaces are connected vertically by a monumental staircase, illuminated from above by a large oculus. Grey-veined Carrara marble provides the staircase treads and floor, and the walls are finished in roughly scraped plaster. Overhead, a round skylight allows daylight to filter all the way down to the basement. w/ @baseltourism @kunstmuseumbasel #StoptherocinBasel #Basel #architecture #lovebasel #baselarchitecture (at Kunstmuseum Basel) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_iHYsqnj0G/?igshid=gc3icn4p5jpy
