Sometimes when I'm birdwatching
#sometimes when i’m birdwatching#things that aren’t birds#these were the closest I got to fish#on my first tenkara angling attempt#I didn't actually try to catch these#I suspect they're chub rather than trout#not actually sure#my fish ID skills being much more rudimentary#but they were tiny#maybe 2 to 3 inches tops#I was doing the tenkara thing#in some of the deeper pools#which in this creek#means about 2-3 feet deep#basically bathtub-sized#I'm not sure there were any fish in there#I certainly didn't catch any#maybe one strike (if it wasn't a rock or a stick catching the fly)#one swirl at the surface that might have been a trout#but it was useful practice#and I look forward to applying what I learned#on a creek with actually visible trout#so I know if I don't catch any#that it's not just because they're not there#closer...
