an awkward interruption at luka's postgame presser (05.09.24)
everything else about the chapter aside, there's a specific detail that i looked forward to the most intense fans locking in on
Wrong Riko, Izuki isn't a cool playmaker who happens to like jokes, he is a jokes lover who happens to be your cool playmaker.
Izuki is so constant and reliable throughout the manga that he doesn't get much spotlight or time to shine, but the fact that he can stay so calm and collected all the time is the reason their team works so well. Without his eagle eyes Kuroko would lost most of his utility on the court, almost every passes Kuroko does are because Izuki passed him the ball first.
Kuroko's abilities is often reduced to the Light and Shadow combo, (Kuroko & Aomine or Kuroko & Kagami ) but it's really a Point Guard, Shadow and Light dynamic. (Akashi, Kuroko & Aomine or Izuki, Kuroko & Kagami)
Kuroko's original use on the court was to pass the ball through opposing defenses, because in his first year of middle school Aomine couldn't dribble as well or as fast as he can now, so he couldn't do it himself. And Akashi couldn't make the impossible passes that cut through opposing defenses (I don't remember if it was ever said if he could make the perfect passes that improve his teammates' abilities in 1st year though). When Kuroko played, Aomine just had to wait behind the defender for Akashi to pass to Kuroko who redirected it to Aomine who could score without anyone stopping him.
This is why Kuroko ended up being left behind by Aomine, he no longer needed help getting past defenses.
I digressed a bit, but my point is that Izuki is a great point guard to be able to use Kuroko's abilities so well. I'll talk about the other 2nd years another time, this post is already too long.
