TEN TIPS FOR BETTER BASSLINES
I’m not sure who invented the need for a bassist in a rock band, but they figured out there somewhere between the high pitched guitar and the toneless rhythm of a drum set there needed to be a musical instrument that was capable of keeping beat while providing a musical backing. The bassist or a bass line can be found is almost every type of dance music and even non dance music. The bass permeates the rest of the music, and even though it can be hard to hear – without it there would be something missing from the music. A lot of attention is given to the bass line of a song and there is good reason to do so. Sometimes a bass line can remain unchanged while the chords and melody completely shift to a create a new feeling – other times the bass line itself can be changed midway or even cut to create a nice break. Modern bass machines use a form of synthesis to create them, and these are started with basic mathematical tools like an oscillator which can create waves. Tweaking these waves will eventually give you the result that you need to create some nice boom in the background. http://www.attackmagazine.com/technique/ten-production-tips-for-better-basslines/
