he would be LYING if he said he wasn’t as well. margaery tyrell was a true lady. one of bred and manners. one that was always meant for a true lord who was raised to hold a keep and command men. he was none of those things. he was born and raised a BASTARD. born of sin and not meant for the true gifts of this world and that’s what she was. he could see it in every eye of her tyrell family. she was a PRECIOUS gift in their eyes and he was UNWORTHY.
a lady like her was meant for his brother. robb stark was lucky like that. he would manage such a PROMISING match with the heiress of the tyrell house. with their two houses together, they easily could have beaten the lannisters and whoever might else come. they would have looked GOOD together.
but atlas, robb was g o n e and all that was left for the king of the north washe.
“ good nerves or bad, aye? “ he wasn’t sure if he wanted to know which now PLAGUED her.
Her initial betrothal to Robb Stark had sealed the alliance between the Reach and the North but she had still been apprehensive of the match. Marriages among the southern kingdoms was common, for most shared customs and culture, but it was rare for Northern nobles to marry outside of their sparse and cold lands.
Margaery had braced herself to marry into a culture that would be almost foreign but everything seemed to shatter when the Starks were murdered at the Twins. As the Northern forces scattered or fell victim to the Freys and Lannisters, House Tyrell was once again left in a state of uncertainty. It wasn’t until the emergence of a new king that the chaos in the north subsided and the paths for alliance were once again clear.
Yet, this new engagement left her even more unsettled. King Jon was a Stark by blood--anyone who had known the late Lord Eddard often attested to this--but his surname still proclaimed him as bastard.
“Both, perhaps,” she answered, finding herself unable to look him in the eyes. “It is...difficult to distinguish between them. What of yourself, my king?”
