When should children start bathing alone?
When they are babies, the moment of the bath is one of the favorite ones by the parents, they are a few minutes of enjoyment to share with the baby. But as they grow up we must gradually promote their autonomy, depending on the child’s age, until they are able to bathe alone.
There is not an age common to all children to start doing it, because each child is different and their degree of maturity is also different. If you have ever asked the question, or have children at that stage, we will talk about when the children should start bathing alone.
Around three or four years can begin to make their first trials of autonomy. They can sponge themselves with our supervision, and as a game, you can name the body parts so that they can clean each one of them. But be careful, never leave them alone without supervision until around six or seven years. Then you can try leaving them alone for a few minutes.
Over time, they will adopt it as a routine. Around five or six years, they will be able to lather the body on their own initiative without forgetting any part of the body. For the hair, they will still need our help for soaping and rinsing for a while.
I have a six-year-old girl who will do all seven in four months and we are in that stage. She wants to shower alone because she feels very old, but at the same time you have to help her with her hair and insist on her in an area that she sometimes forgets to clean herself like her feet, her back or behind her ears.
Although each child has its own rhythm and should not be taken literally, it can be said that between 7 and 9 years is the age at which children can begin to bathe or shower alone .
Help them with everything necessary to get them out of their first bathrooms. Make sure you have everything you need (shampoo, conditioner, soap, towel, etc.)
The safety in the bathroom
One of the things that most worries parents is the safety when leaving children alone in the bathroom. Here are some tips:
Try to leave the door ajar in case they need to call you for anything. Also, spend every 3-4 minutes to supervise the bathroom and make sure everything goes well.
Do not forget to buy a non-slip mat or stickers to place in the bathtub to avoid accidents. The bars are also very useful so they can hold more safely while soaping.
Place a rug outside the bathtub to avoid kickbacks when leaving. If you consider it better, you can tell him to let you know when he finishes to help him out.
Prevents burns by opening the tap at the proper temperature. A good measure is to install a temperature regulator.
Keep out of reach any dangerous object such as hair dryer and hair straighteners, razors, razors, scissors, etc …
