Today really is the day, I told myself, as I hung my bag on my back, with a somber smile.
Truthfully, I'm still nervous, and I still would really like another night here, but... no. I couldn't put off any longer.
Looking back at my room one last time, all I could do was sigh. Knowing that this would be the last time I will look at the mirror to practice my acting and shapeshifting, the last time I sleep on my warm, soft bed, the last time I organize my room and create new outfits…
It's going to be extremely tough, but… in order to become a fully-fledged kitsune, I have to do this. To explore. To learn. To develop myself as a kitsune.
It's... difficult. Was this how MIss Alice and Miss Ran felt before in their own journeys too? And the other figures in Gensokyo who had to do their own travels as well?
Stepping out of my room, I took one last peek inside before closing the door, locking it. And the one who's waiting right outside was my mistress.
My mom. Lady Satori, Mistress of Chireiden. I know she tried speaking a few words, but… almost as if I could read her mind, I just gave her a nod in return.
There really isn't any more words to say. Not after so much preperation for this day. All we did… was give each other one final hug, before I handed the keys to my room to her. And with that, I stepped towards the exit of the giant mansion which I call home.
Walking past the Ancient City… Stepping on top of the bridge guarded by Parsee… and finally, towards the morning sun of Gensokyo.
Taking in the view one last time, I made my way towards the Hakurei Border by flying. And there, were quite a number of people waiting for me. Some glad, some still crying...
Honestly, it's just... overwhelming.
Greeting them with a smile and looking back as I walked towards my destination, it really was an eye-opener to just see how many people actually supported me along the way, and was right there at my side during my stay here.
"… Thank you, everyone. And umm… I hope to see you all soon. Take care, all of you. Alright?"
All that has been said has already been said, after all.
Giving a bow, I turned back and walked across the illusionary border.
... Honestly, my heart sank the moment I stepped outside, knowing I won't be back for a very, very long time. The air felt heavier, even if my surroundings didn't change.
It didn't take long to meet my other traveling companion after walking a few steps. Another kitsune, just like me.
"Let's go, Library. Wherever the wind leads us."
And so begins the chapter of our next story. Whatever happens, good or bad, we'll tackle it head-on. Together.
Hm? What do I think of my life in Gensokyo overall, you ask? Well…
'I'm glad to have met everyone.'
