World’s largest ship in 1979, Sumitomo Heavy Industries. The Seawise Giant oil tank was produced by Japan as one of the Batillus class supertankers. (Previously known as Knock Nevis, Jahre Viking and Happy Giant.)
The ship, which was used from 1979 to 2009, was scrapped in India. Seawise Giant was damaged and sunk in the Strait of Hormuz during an air strike on May 14, 1988 during the Iran-Iraq War, but was later rescued and repaired and put back into service.
The Seawise Giant had a total length of 458.45 meters, a tonnage of 260,851 gross tonnage and a capacity of 564,763 detveys. The maximum speed was 16 knots (30 kilometers / hour).

The largest oil tankers currently in use are the TI class supertankers produced in 2002-2003. These vessels are 4 and are named TI Africa, TI Europe, TI Asia and TI Oceania.
The total length of these vessels is 380 meters, their tonnage is 234,006 gross tonnage and their capacity is 444,585 detveyt. Their speed is 16.5 knots when loaded and 17.5 knots when unloaded.

Its total length is 400 meters, its tonnage is 187,541 gross tonnage and its duration is 184,320 detveyt (19,000 TEU). The length of the ship is greater than 4 football fields.
