Small Q&A with Amemiya Yuki & Ichihara Yukino
Featured in ZeroSum’s 20th anniversary site.
Why did you choose to serialize your work in ZeroSum? Some artists we love were serializing their works in it.
Do you have any memories of the time your work was first included in ZeroSum? We slept hugging the magazine.
What was your impression of ZeroSum when you first serialized in it? We thought every artist was so talented…
How did you come up with the settings of your stories? Life and death may have had a big influence on us since childhood.
What made you the happiest in your time serializing here? We were always able to chase after artists we will never be able to surpass.
What was the hardest thing about serializing here? - We really enjoy playing around with plots and storyboards, but we often accidentally cross the line of being interesting. When we try to adjust it, we end up stopping right before the line. We aim to find a nice middle way. - Since we work together, some unsavory things happen when one of us includes a scene or idea that the other doesn’t like. In order to bring out the best in each other, we have to try not to overlook what the other likes!
What do you pay attention to as you create manga? - We try to take care of our mental health. - We try not to forget that the more time we spend working on a storyboard, the better it ends up being.
What are the origins of your pen names? We didn’t really think about them that deeply.
What is your favorite character that you have created? We love them all, so they’re all our favorites.
A message to your readers. It’s thanks to you that we’re able to keep creating manga together. Thank you for reading our work!
