Chapter VI - Smoking Snakes
So here is chapter six (I know I skipped anything to do with five being published but never mind that now). Although the battle itself might not have been amazing it's still probably one of my favourite chapters, if not favourite, so far.
Still, I feel like I need to talk a little about my thought process for this one as it did take a while to get to you guys and that's largely because I just couldn't decided how I wanted the battle to play out. In the end I ultimately just said screw it and decided to work off of nothing other than Rule of Cool.
Let's go back to the beginning here though; Yamaki finally pops back up, I'm sure a lot of you expected him to put in an appearance at some point and I felt this was the best opportunity to reintroduce him, what he's been a part of for the past five years and where he is now whilst still keeping it in line with everything else that's going on at the same time.
Hypnos is gone, but only to make way for something bigger - that was always the idea when I began planning this story. I honestly don't understand why any one government would simply let Japan to continue to do its own thing when it came to Digimon after the the D-Reaper: meaning that whilst the public at large is in the dark, the whole incident with the D-Reaper did force Japan to come clear with other governments about Digimon and the Digital World. Of course the result, in this continuity of mine is a global organization made from people around the world and built off of the ground work laid by Hypnos although they do so much more.
Like a lot of the minor side characters in the story, you'll see more as we go on, I've bored from other Digimon canon, in this case Satsuma (Richard Sampson in the English version) and Spencer Damon are both borrowed from Data Squad but aren't really intend to be those characters per-say. I guess, at the end of the day, seeing as they're based on existing characters they could be viewed as alternate continuity counterparts to their canon selves.
Much like Yamaki, the returning Monster Makeres and some of the old Hypnos staff members, Satsuma and Spencer will be among the big supporting character working to assist the Tamers as thing progress.
Next is the big battle itself. This was an utter headache to write because not only have I never really written a battle involving Digimon before I also had to work out how the hell I was supposed to write the character's when they Biomerged. In the end I just ended up writing it as one character, with the occasional line to highlight some individuality and show that Dukemon is still two separate beings though they are much closer to full merging into one than they ever have canonically been (seeing as Biomerging is a little more complex in this story than it was in canon).
Like I said, most of the fight ran off of Rule of Cool - hence the underwater brawl, I mean as Dukemon Takato/Guilmon are made of data and data doesn't need air because it doesn't breath so it didn't seem to outrageous to have them fight underwater, at least with a incredibly reduced need for oxygen.
In the end I didn't want either side to really win the fight, I mean Takato is massively out of practise when it comes fighting at such a high level and GigaSeadramon need to be a strong enough threat that Ryo couldn't win alone but not come across as unbeatable because if they outright lost the first fight then they'd all be dead and there would be no story, would there?
Finally yes, the fallout actually has Takato/Ryo still retaining some of the damage. This is two fold:
1) by have the Biomerged Mega actually take visible damage it makes them seem much less invincible and far more vulnerable when facing enemies of the calibre they now have to fight.
2) They closer they are to achieving a perfect sync the more connected Tamer and Digimon are and some of the attacks they take as a Biomerged Mega would kill an human so though they are resistant beyond belief, they're still not going to walk off face tanking a barrage of missiles after they seperate back into Tamer and Digimon again.
As for the last scene... I'm just not going to say anything on that and let you draw your on conclusions.
Next chapter is already being worked on as I post this, catch you soon (hopefully)!
