Battle round is truly one of those songs that you can only really ‘get’ or feel the emotional weight of if you’ve actually watched the entire show, and I know this because I went backwards and watched clips of the finale on YouTube first, which got me intrigued enough to listen to some of the soundtrack which convinced me to watch the show, also listening throughout my watch. And I just didn’t... get, Battle Round. It starts out gorgeous and somber and tying into those core musical themes and then there’s just some silly shit over it??? Why???
but then... you watch the show. And that’s it. That’s the entire show. Some incredibly serious and emotional things with some silly shit all over it. It works together in perfect harmony, just as battle round does to anyone who knows where it’s coming from. It’s honestly one of the most perfect songs in the show for essentially being the show incarnate and showing how far everyone’s come in the visuals. It’s beautiful.
