Battlelore | Sword's Song (2003)
Battlelore - The Return of the Shadow. 03/06/2022
Tuesday, November 26: Battlelore, "True Dragons"
It took Battlelore a full 20 years before they wrote something called “True Dragons”, but if nothing else they’ve been unwavering in their commitment to gothic power metal inspired by castles and unicorns. It was all drama all the time, especially with the vocals climbing the fjords and howling for sweet revenge with fire and swords, and the orchestral flourishes balanced genuine grandeur with pure Velveeta. This was ready made for a faceoff against a full army of orcs, and surprisingly easy to get caught up in without feeling like parody.
🌻
Battlelore is a symphonic metal band that sings about almost nothing but Tolkien. They even have an entire album about Turin.
Battlelore / Sons of Riddemark
Unappreciated Tolkien inspired band: Battlelore
Amazing vocals (and a female singer!!)
The perfect mixt of power metal and dark metal with a tad of melodic and folk
Norse (Finnish) so obviously amazing at metal
Literally their entire discography is lotr/silm inspired
If you liked Nightfall in Middle Earth by Blind Guardian you're gonna love them
Where the Shadows Lie
Sword's Song (personal favourite)
Third Age of The Sun
Evernight (other personal favourite, I couldn't find the full album but here's the first song)
The Last Alliance
Doombound
Sword’s Song - Battlelore
The first chord from the vein of the ore There it all begins The blacksmiths forge will resolve The metal's nature The riddle of steel, hiding the key Are you able to find it? Unlock the chain, the prize you gain... Soul of the sword has spoken Wave it in the air, let it breath This perfect blance, the harmony Shivers on the edge of the steel Tranquillising melody Respect the way how it stands and feels Will it give you a chance? It's not for everyone to see How it sings on a battlefield Faithful mate of the whitest knight The loot of the lowest thief Path of justice, hope for the weak Path of blood for your enemy Two sides of the sword You may think it's nothing but agony When you feel the hate It is the hand that carries the blade Cold steel the warrior's chum It will never deceive you Take a good care of it And you will be rewarded Use it wisely don't be a fool IT could be a burden But when it's time for you to meet the steel Let it dance for you Feel the might Inside of you Raise your blade It's time to fight I heard the sword's song And it sang to me Both the iron, the will Under my control
The Band: Battlelore
Country: Finland
Formed in: 1999
Genre: Symphonic metal
This finnish band is mainly inspired by Tolkien’s works, they play melodic and epic symphonic metal, and as many symphonic metal bands from early 00′s they have a female singer, mixed with more agressive growls. This is an underated band imo, you will find great pieces of music through their six albums, especially the first ones.
Tolkien Element: Third Age of the Sun (third full-lenght of the band) The Third Age of the Sun begins after Sauron's defeat in the Battle of Dagorlad. This age will see the events of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (among others) unfold.
